Melbourne City has announced a new coaching structure for the A-League and W-League teams in advance of the 2018/19 seasons.

Rado Vidošić joins City as the Club’s Technical Director and Head Coach of the Westfield W-League. Vidošić’s extensive A-League experience includes two seasons as Assistant Coach alongside Ange Postecoglou at Brisbane Roar, as well as Assistant Coach roles at Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix. His son, Dario Vidošić, currently plays for Melbourne City.

Former Matildas Captain, Melissa Hudson (formerly Barbieri) joins Vidošić as Assistant Coach of the women’s team. Hudson made 86 appearances for Australia and has featured in four world cups. She most recently came out of retirement to play as an injury-replacement player for Melbourne City.

Zeljko Kalac joins the A-League team as goalkeeping coach. The 6ft 8in former Socceroo joins the Club from a stint as goalkeeping coach it Karabükspor in Turkey. Before that, he coached at Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC. As a player, his career spanned more than 20 seasons in the UK (Leicester City), Italy (AC Milan, Perugia), Greece (Kavala), the Netherlands (Roda) and Australia (Sydney United, Hobart Zebras).

Tony Vidmar has signed a two-year contract extension as Assistant Coach of the Hyundai A-League team. Former Melbourne City Captain Patrick Kisnorbo will be Second Assistant Coach to the men’s team.

I feel rather sad for them. What would the Phoenix be without the Yellow Fever? Nothing pretty much.

Big blow to them with Jack Hendry needing surgery after tearing his medial collateral ligament.

Great news for us playing them soon!

Importantly keeps him in the NZ football orbit more or less. Not too far away, if opportunities ever arise back in the Shaky Isles.

City gonna leave their 5 year old training facilities for a new one in Dandenong, in order to have a regional identity

Good move to set up shop down south - its barely 'regional' though. With no further A-league expansion on the cards in Melb, best to take a firmer grip on a suburban stronghold. This is where Team11 was based.

It's a good move for them, it's a very fast growing area of Melbourne with a population base that traditionally supports football.

Yep, it should've been done when they first came into the league but better late than never.

There's a big immigrant population, particularly in Dandenong and surrounding areas, who will love to have a team to properly support.

It's further away from the city than Werribee/Truganina (~35km), so will be further out than Western United's catchment area.

I meant regional as in a part of Melbourne that can see them as their team. They have basically looked at the Team 11 bid and thought, oh those are good ideas & ran with them

Thats right, not just distance but a big mental/social difference also. Sort of like North-harbour v Auckland but even more stark.

If they can build the boutique stadium in D'dong it will really be the missing piece in the puzzle to solve Melbournes fragmented teams and hopefully capitalise on the potential in these suburbs.

Great for Des but honestly horrible for PK. Achilles injuries are NASTY - and to do that during a charity match is pretty unlucky. I liked PK as a player and rate him as a manager (also I might be biased as he's half Italian IIRC) - so best of lucky for a quick recovery!
