Morning all, buildup to the 2016 Confeds began with this trip to Belfast - not the most inspiring viewing, to be fair...

Final buildup match for Confeds 17 saw this trip to Minsk.

To be honest, this match summed up the general discontent at the time.  Playing the second string lineup of a third tier European team, in grotty weather in front of minimal crowd in a Communist-era concrete bowl, the All Whites looked bereft of ideas and turn in a massively underwhelming performance - barely days out from a major international tournament... they should have absolutely bossed this, but looked all at sea...

The All Whites face the USA in DC in 2016 - and turn in arguably the best footballing performance since the 2010 World Cup.  Shame they couldn't play like this at Confeds...

Afternoon all,

Five years ago I set up the All Whites History channel on YouTube, so that I could share match highlights of as many games as possible for fans to enjoy.  Today I've finally completed uploading my library!!

That said, there's a number of games that I'm blocked from having on the channel due to copyright.  The two World Cups and four Confeds Cups are under FIFA's auspices, and so it's not possible to put up footage of those.  UEFA hold the rights for the Eire and Lithuania games (no, me neither), while Star India aggressively blocked the 3 matches from the tournament we played there in 2018.

But otherwise, everything I have archived is up there - about 170 matches, give or take. Have also done my best to organise some playlists to help navigate around them.

I'm always on the lookout for games I don't have and will upload any I locate, and plan to add stuff from future AWs matches too (am glad there will be some!).  If anyone has any suggestions or contacts for sourcing any games I don't have on my channel, please feel free to let me know (boxes of old VHS tapes in garages are welcomed).

Anyways, to mark the completion (for now) of the channel, my final clip is the oldest one I have - World Cup qualifier from 1973.  It predates both my birth and the advent of colour TV in NZ!!  Hope you enjoy some of the old names, and a pretty decent goal :)

Thanks so much for your efforts Sa'id - it's such a unique You Tube channel with so much stuff of dear value to All Whites fans.
Reading about past games is one thing, but seeing footage such as this, which is otherwise quite rare, is the best!
As far as other All Whites material I know of:
You can find the whole 1981 group stage match away vs. China on You Tube, complete with the build-up show hosted by a young Peter Williams here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovKR6hYJxDk
It's a transfer of someone's video of the NZ TV broadcast so the picture quality isn't up to moden digital standards - but it's still great to see (and otherwise not available anywhere else)
NZ vs. Kuwait and NZ vs. Fiji full matches 1982 home qualifiers are also on the same fantastic "Old Football Matches" You Tube channel here:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoLXu_ErtcO5LnObPm3GFTDtH8iutsUqD
NZ vs. Israel 1990 WC qualifier, Auckland full match here:

Good read :)

For a bit more detail, here's an interview with Colin Walker from his current club  Grimsby Town (head of the academy) about his career:
https://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/2019/december/towns-academy-coach-was-once-the-most-wanted-junior-footballer-in-britain/
Here's the nine minute 1970 BBC current affairs show about the young prodigy Walker from the archives: https://twitter.com/BBCArchive/status/1201474845847851009
"Better than George Best" said one scout and driven by George Best to the training ground to meet everyone as a youngster!
It should be mentioned that Colin was an asthmatic which was a factor that hindered his career - I remember seeing him puffing on an inhaler during a game for Gisborne City in the 1980's.
His health ups and downs explain why one season he was playing for Harworth Colliery Institute and the next for Sheffield Wednesday in the top flight with brief spells at other Football League clubs before and after those two.

"AllWhites Football" is the go-to place for highlights of most AW's matches from all eras.
I came across this You Tube channel  the other day which fills in some gaps in the few videos which "AlWhites Football" channel doesn't have (e.g. from the 1970's).
It seems to be the most comprehensive private collection of World Cup qualifying videos on You Tube and has several of the All Whites over the decades going back to the 1970's.
"1986soccerman" channel:
He has hundreds of videos from qualifying for every World Cup.

Thanks, mate! Brilliant to find such rare footage from NZ's early attempts to qualify for the World Cup! I think that we first attempted to qualify for the 1970 World Cup but were beaten in the second round by Israel over two matches played in Israel. In these qualifiers for 1974 NZ finished bottom of their group with three draws and three losses - but we did draw both home and away to Australia which salvaged some local pride! (3-3 away) Australia topped the group and went on to beat Iran over two legs in the "Zone B" final; from there they advanced to the Asia / OFC qualification final where they beat South Korea over two legs and qualified for Germany 1974.

The coaching staff tend to stay away from it, making it a place where players can open up a bit more, and as Fallon recounts, it’s a place where there are plenty of stories to be told – many coming from Jeffery and what he’s soaked up during his two decades on the road.

“We always bring up the worst ever tours and stuff like that, and the stories are brilliant,” says Fallon. “He's a top man, Rolls, he's always got something for us. He's always got a new story for us, every time we go back.”

On June 17, days after the All Whites play Costa Rica, they will mark the 100th anniversary of New Zealand’s first men’s international, against Australia. Jeffery has been around for almost a fifth of that time, and he takes pride in his role handing down what he describes as “sort of an unofficial oral history of the team”.
