It’s guna be cool to have some one on the team who played in an attack featuring Ifill and Greenacre!

Get the band back together!
Kosta - Right Attacking Mid
Rojas - Left Attacking Mid
Ball = Greenie up top
Ifill = uhhh, Benik Afobe is a former Millwall forward who's off contract?

Aaah bugger it, at this point sign Rojas on the other side too. I could absolutely  get behind an all kiwi redemption wonderstory of two home-grown products returning home after a checkered relationship with the club to bring them to their first ever season winning title!
Now Rojas would get me excited, possibly the best form of his life. Doesn't have the same affinity for Wellington that Kosta does, though, and his life is in Melbourne now.

Rojas even in top form is a hard no for me. Like Kosta he left for bigger and better things and returned to the a-league when things didnt go as planned, he's a decent player but for the money he'd be asking for I'd rather we found an import player with better credentials.

There's an article that I read in a dodgy google translate that they've actually cancelled his contract. From memory it said that he performed well in pre-season but the board said that they would prefer for his spot to be taken by a youngster.

Seeing as he's only got a year left on his contract, it makes sense that they'll release him rather than send him out on another loan.

Seemed to have a great attitude and is definitely import quality in the A-League, just might not be in the position that we need.

I disagree, I’d love Rojas here. Players are professionals, he left to a better opportunity at a bigger club, to hold a grudge over that happening a decade ago is excessive. He’d be expensive, but that’s because he has earned the right to ask for wages like that; you’d be paying big money to an equivalent visa player anyway.

The are, of course, questions about whether he’d want to come, but it seems weird that he still hasn’t been officially extended if was considered untouchable by the Victory. There were rumours about them going after Nani, so maybe his re-signing is dependent on that not happening. There are also the concerns that he’s never really hit his potential outside of playing for the Victory; his European career was less than expected as was his AWs career, so maybe there’s issues outside of his comfort zone. Talay also didn’t want him last time he was available, when he left SønderjyskE in Jan 2020, so maybe he doesn’t rate him in his 4-2-2-2 system.

WSW are rumoured to be in for a Portuguese striker, Rafael Lopes. Wonder if that means they won't go for Roy? If they both sign, that'll mean they'd only have one visa spot left.

Roy still might come home...

Could be that Rojas hasn't extended because Victory are trying to fit him under the cap and are negotiating. As has been stated, they're in the market for big marquees and would want Rojas' spot for that.

Guessing we won't be chasing Buhagiar now that we signed Kosta. Admittedly this graphic is distorted because he mainly came off the bench but it shows why I thought we should sign him

That first one is interesting as bar Maclaren, Leckie and i guess Sotirio the rest of those guys have had average seasons output wise so maybe that shows they're not converting as much as they should.

Been thinking about who we might sign as Sutt’s back up for the season coming. Looking at the off contract Aussies, there’s a few that could be worth a punt. Behich and Garruccio are too good and too expensive to be behind Sutton and Farrell is on an upward trajectory where he ought to be starting.

But there’s a few that look like solid backups - Corey Brown is off contract from Brisbane, very solid on his day with heaps of A-League experience, but can be a bit of a donkey sometimes too. There’s 25 year old Ivan Vujica and 20 year old Dalibor Markovic, both from Western United. There’s also 27 year old Dylan Murnane (who?) from Newcastle, the injured Michael Zullo and 34 year old James Meredith. 19 year old Nic Walsh from Perth too.

Looking at those names I’d be tempted to have a look at Brown. I wouldn’t want him starting often but could be a good pick up for his experience?

There’s also the chance we go for a kiwi in the amateurs as well. Dan Morgan’s name has come up a few times and he would bring some former pro experience to the team. With the two returns in the last two days it makes me think that Tom Doyle could be keen for a look in, but I see he’s left Bay Olympic and at 29 might be working on his non footballing career up in Aucks? Not sure I’d want him back anyway, a bit over the hill perhaps.

There’s also some young boys like Robi Sabo over in Sweden or the likes of Nathan Lobo at Auckland City and Zac Zoricich in the Mariners academy.

What do you reckon we’ll go for? I’m thinking a Dan Morgan or Corey Brown is the most likely. Sutton’s still a young player so it would probably be for the best to have an older, more mature and experienced player there to back him up.

Yeah Deklan would be my pick of the bunch were he available but even if he were I don’t think he’d give up a starting role in the USL after not playing any football for so long.

Rory Falloon is at the Nix and also with the AWs. So possible for the assistants it seems to do both. He probably played a part in Gould’s signing.

I had that though too, but Johnathan Gould told Ian Smith on SENZ that Matthew had just signed a 1+1 with Altrincham, so not happening this season.

Hey guys, even though I have only just joined, I have been a fan of the Phoenix since the 2009/10 season. Since we have unfortunately missed out on Charlie Austin, let me guys know what you think about this player? He is not English but has an impressive goal ratio for the leagues he has played in.

Looks pretty handy, better than Kaludjerovic who still managed 9 goals in a horrific season.

Edit - After doing some real quick background checking, I also see that Lasogga’s step father, former Werder Bremen goalkeeper Oliver Reck, played over 200 games with Wynton Rufer. So I’m sure some phone calls could be made pretty quickly.

Double edit - Lasogga was at HSV at the same time as Steinmann too. Only played a couple games together but Matti would be able to give him a chat about the club and the league.

Wusty mate, you may have just found a real gem.

Always hard to know how players will do just by looking at stats, but has a reasonable (2.) Bundesliga pedigree. Would speak English fluently and Germany isn’t too different weather wise (though Qatar is tbf) so shouldn’t really be any issues. Overlapped at HSV with Matti Steinmann who would be able to give an endorsement to either party same way Dávila did for Sandoval.

There does not seem to be much interest for him so far, even though his contract ends at the end of this month. Whether Talay wants him or the player is even keen on coming to New Zealand remains to be seen.

Have your first 'This' mate. Good spot that is.

Would be an interesting one that's for sure.

A quick look at his YouTube highlights and a few notes - he's a big boy, not the quickest by the looks, but isn't afraid to throw his body about in order to grab a goal, he looks a committed fella - hard nosed and passionate. Good with his head and looks to have a good hold up style of play with his big frame.
Have certainly seen a lot worse. Good looking out on that one. 👍

Yeah the more I look at this guy the more I like him. Like others have said, proven goal scorer at a high level, has some connections to the Nix already, big strong unit that players like Ball, Waine, Barba, Old etc can play off of, only 30 years old, playing at a respectable level overseas (so probably wouldn’t be against moving down here), and most importantly, has only ever had one long term injury in his career. He did his cruciate ligament way back in 11/12, but that was before his career hit it’s highest levels so evidently didn’t have a negative impact on his ability. He’s never missed more than 30 days since 2014, a welcome change from Hooper and Hemed.

A proven goal scorer who can finish off our chances, be a powerful presence up the top of the park to draw defenders and let smaller, nippier players play off him and looks like he’ll be consistently on the pitch.

Wusty if we sign this guy then you might have the all time best first post on the forum.

Lasogga, 26, made 33 appearances for Leeds after joining the Yorkshire club on a season-long loan from Hamburg in the summer of 2017. He was identified as the man to replace Chris Wood, who netted 30 the season before.

The 11-time Germany Under-21 international got off to a blistering start, scoring two in a 5-0 win over Burton Albion, but it went downhill from there. Scoring just 10 goals in total, he returned to Hamburg.
