Highlights of the 2-2 draw in windy cool Nova Scotia.

Bevan's goal as scrappy as they come. Think he also had a header bounce off the cross bar soon after. All the action from free kicks & corners. Female ref & assistants.

In the CPL Kiwi Golden Boot race, Dyer has 3 & Bevan 1 - his double was in a Cup game.

Bevan scores against the Whitecaps, and a cracker it is too. Finishes 1-1 (don't think they played ET).

Unfortunately Calvary go on to lose pen shootout 3-5, Bevan converted his pen.

No better than to score a belter against a MLS team, to enhance your career prospects maybe.

5 goals in his last 4 games across all competitions too. So safe to say he's finding his feet over in Canada.

That was a quality strike too, you don't hit them much sweeter than that. Just a shame that Cavalry were bundled out on penalties. Things shaping up nicely for the remainder of the season for Bevan.

Obviously it’s a big step up but boy would it be nice to see Bevan, Collier and Dyer succeeding in the MLS soon. Wood’s levels above but it would be nice to have some more competition alongside Greive, Waine, De Jong etc for that second striker role.

Collier's a winger. Plus he had 2 seasons in the MLS with plenty of chances and didn't score a goal. He's now 27, and the USL is a big step down with questionable quality.

The unfairly maligned Dyer, who knows. Age 25, more of a converted striker. Canadian league likely even more questionable than USL. But good that both him and Bevan at last seem to have found environments they are doing well in.

Bevan also 25. Reckon he is the most likely of the 3 to have a breakout year, and be given a chance by a MLS team. Having a Canadian passport will help. Bounced around USL, Sweden & South Africa doing very little. Plus some time back in the Handy Prem. But he's a bonafide striker. Maybe he just needs a stable year in Canada (a place pretty similar in many ways to NZ - few Kiwi expats in Calgary), to show what he can do. That was a lovely strike against Whitecaps (who may have been playing a 2nd XI). Bevan did trial with Uffie at the Nix, but not deemed worthy enough. Canadian league is most likely his level, but some more goals like yesterday and who knows.

I feel that’s a bit harsh on the CanPL, though I say that without having watched it. Canada are having a ‘golden generation’, much more so than NZ or Aus are, for example their generation are winning Ligue 1, Bundesliga and Champions’ League titles, as opposed to ours playing Danish second tier or Italian youth football.

There are only three Canadian MLS teams, so there aren’t so many that talent wouldn’t spill over into the CanPL. Football has a similarly marginalised existence as to Australia/NZ and the culture is similar, except Canada has 38 million people for 11 pro teams compared to 25 in Aus for 12 pro teams.  The A League will always be held in high esteem here as it has the only pro team in NZ, but in reality it’s not that strong, and continental and Aus/NZ international results are testament to that. Obviously MLS is a much higher level than A League, but USL is probably pretty close too, when you think about how many players there are in the US compared to here.

If you compare Bevan with a guy like Ben Waine who is getting picked, there isn’t much between them. If you take the OFC Olympic Qualifiers that both played, Bevan scored 12 to Waine’s 8, and similarly Bevan scored 13 in the ISPS to Waine’s 8. It was just circumstantial that Waine is from Wellington and Bevan from Auckland, and one has the pro team and the other doesn’t.

Bevan did trial at the Nix under Uffie. But yipe likely competing for a spot there with Waine, and the latter is younger.

Let’s see how he goes in Canada. I hope he finally settles somewhere and has a great season. Then who knows who’s watching. He and his team mates, and the home crowd loved that goal. He could become a popular figure in Calgary. Cool little stadium they have

The whole football mood in Canada will be at an almost all time high like it was in NZ 2009-2011 flowing through to the CPL. Bevan & Dyer will enjoy and get caught up in that football buzz

From Flying Kiwis.

Doubtful they can catch Myer Bevan’s Cavalry team though. That lot has gone four points clear in first (with two games in hand on second, though others can catch them with their own games in hand) thanks to a five game winning streak... which Bevan has played little part in. He’s missed the last three games with a hamstring strain. Bevan has two goals in the CPL this season (plus another in the Canadian Cup) while Dyer has four bangers (but leads the league in total shot attempts). The golden boot leader has six goals as it stands.

In terms of squad availability, Cavalry has had a few positive developments recently, including David Norman Jr.’s return from suspension and Joe Di Chiara making his first start of the year on Thursday. Mason Trafford and Myer Bevan remain the two main fitness concerns at the moment (not counting those who remain out with long-term injuries).

York lead 1-0 at HT.

See they have a couple of young Aussies. 23 yr old Tass Mourdoukoutas who was at WSW  & 20 yr old Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio who was at Victory. Both recent arrivals in Canada (Toronto). Lawrie-Lattanzio with the assist for the goal.

Might give an indication where the CPL lies level wise, if these 2 guys are straight in as starters. Somewhere below the A League, but above the NPL leagues?? The 2 Aussies haven't helped York yet much to date, as they come into this one off a 4 game losing streak.

Did make a cheeky return to the pitch for his first minutes since the 29th of May! Must have been a doozy of an injury, although I can't seem to find out exactly what it was.

Hopefully can get some more game time over the coming weeks. Was a promising looking season for him in Canada before sitting out of most of it.
9 games in all competitions, 5 goals.

Good thing he's got another year on his contract, otherwise you fear he may have been released.

Cavalry (4th, 44 pts) host Pacific (2nd, 46 pts), in last game of regular season. Cavalry win & they go to 2nd, but then could be overtaken by Forge (3rd, also 44pts) on GD if Forge win their final game.

Interesting that on Soccerway Bevan is now under a Canadian flag. Likely doesn't mean much, but I understand he has been a Canadian citizen for a few years now, but this is a new change.

Came on as a 68th min sub (0-0) and scored 10 mins later. But unfortunately just prior to his goal, Cavalry had gone 2-0 down over 6 mins..

Finished 2-1 Forge, and Bevan's season is over.

Both teams were playing with 10 men since late first half.

Bevan 12 games, 5 starts, and 3 goals in his injury plagued first Canadian season.
