Reason?
Visa had expired.

Shouldn't have needed a credit card? I thought Slava was strictly a cash man?

What's the official/known mechanism for promotion and relegation this season.

Last I heard was that last place gets relegated, then there's a playoff involving Mainland, Nelson Bays and the South to replace them. But not sure how accurate this is.

Any idea Gavin or anyone else?

Speaking of which - any pro/rel between South and other teams, e.g. the former Donald Gray cup teams? Obviously Queens Park applied for a position, but wondering if there's a merit-based pathway for other clubs

That is the way I understand it, with the proviso that any clubs seeking promotion met the 'licensing requirements' of the National League, which also cover's the Southern, Central and Northern League, so the likes of coaching badges, facilities - charging rooms, showers, room for officials / refs etc.

Here are regs around the Promotion / Relegation for both the Southern Premier League and the Canterbury Premier Leagues, note in Football South they have the right to nominate the second placed team, remembering that the Royals, Green Island and Mosgiel all have their second / reserve teams playing the SPL, with the Royal currently topping the table with three rounds to play by 9 points, from Roslyn Wakari with Northern in third place.

Could not find anything regs on the promotion from Nelson Bays Division 1, which has been won by Blenheim Rangers

Football South – Southern Premier League

3 PROMOTION / RELEGATION

3.1 Football South will nominate the winner of the Southern Premier League for the playoff with a Mainland Football Federation team, to be promoted to the Southern League.

3.2 Should the winner of the Southern Premier League not be eligible to play in or opt not to compete in the play-off, Football South will nominate the second placed team.

3.2.1 If the second placed team does not wish to participate in the play-off, or is ineligible, Football South will not nominate a team for the play-off.

Mainland Football - Canterbury Premier League

Promotion/Relegation

24.9 The highest ranked team on the CPL final table will be nominated for the ‘Playoff Series’, to compete for promotion into the SL.

24.10 The ‘Playoff Series’ will be regulated under its own set of regulations.

24.11 The lowest placed team on the CPL final table will be relegated to Canterbury Division One, subject to the winning team of the Canterbury Division One meeting any requirements to gain promotion into the CPL.

24.12 In the event the winning team of the Canterbury Division One does not meet the requirements to enter into the CPL, there will be no team relegated from the CPL

Interesting article.

NZF says it conducted six club audits in the first year of the present league competition (it started in 2021) and is in the process of conducting another six in 2022.

“To date, there hasn’t been any evidence of clubs breaking the rules discovered by this process. Regardless, we are aware there are insinuations within the football community that player payments and excess player reimbursement is taking place within the new competition structure.

“In 2023 New Zealand Football will look to adapt and evolve its approach to this issue, look at other methods to ensure clubs are acting within the rules and will continue to work closely with the Department of Internal Affairs.

“Since launching the new competition model, we haven’t had any allegations made (by clubs, players or other parties) where sufficient evidence has been provided to verify the claim. We remain committed to investigating accusations when they arise, but they must be evidence-based, not founded on rumour or hearsay.”

Penalties for paying players are severe. If a professional player is found to have played in an amateur competition, all games they played are forfeited.

Probably more because while it gives it some publicity, it doesn't really tell us anything we don't already know.

I agree. I just don't like some of the rocks been thrown when it seems more in jealousy of success. As has been said we all no the rumours and nobody is squeaky.

But let's face it any club can get round the rules. Many players have partners, that money can be paid into and what's stopping sponsors dropping cash in an envelope.
