The addition of Jean Carlos Solorzano, Isaka Cernak and Marco Rojas in particular are strong signings, adding depth and, in Rojas's case, giving Victory an injection of pace and excitement that may have been lacking as a result of Carlos Hernandez's slowing legs.

Unsurprisingly Rojas pulled the injury card for the game and was a no show.

Do we really think he was pulled deliberately in case Manny or Vinnie or someone deliberately tried to break his legs?

Yes - probably more along the lines of Siggytrying to decapitate Robbie Kruse v Oz

Don't think the players took Marco leaving quite as badly as some of the fans.

I'm over the whole "marco's leaving thing" ....I suspect most of the players are as well. I wish the kid all the best for the future. Sounds like he played really well against Celtic. People were raving about him on the Victory forum(best player on the park) and the Coach singled him out for special praise.
OK.....Celtic are not Man U but if they have good well disiplined defenders. If he can do the business angainst those sorts of guys then its obvious that he would not be out of place in second tier Europe.
The call from many on the Victory forum is that he will be gone by January....and Victory will pick up a tidy fee!!!!
I sure hope he does not go to the UK....especially Scotland. No offense, but he will have the shiite kicked out of him. Better to go to somewhere like Holland or Div 2 in Spain or France. Somewhere where small ball players get better protection.

The Dutch are quite capable of kicking the sh*t out of players.

To avoid being redirected to a secondary site with instructions in French, just click here for the original report on Marco which is on FIFA.com:
Great report though, comparing him with fellow diminutive midfielder, Portugal U-20 player Caetano. Check out the numerous interesting comments posted below the article, which comprise a veritable feast of international "short genius" player discussion.
Does anyone remember Kenny Drakeford, a very tricky former Wolves midfielder of about 5' who played in our National League for Dunedin and Nelson in the 80's?

Interesting rivalry between melbourne victory and heart

While the Victory has gone overboard in recruiting a superstar like Kewell and exciting emerging talents from other A-League clubs (Jean Carlos Solorzano, Isaka Cernak, Marco Rojas from Brisbane, North Queensland and Wellington respectively), Heart has embarked on significant change itself. Three of its own veterans have retired or moved on (John Aloisi, Josip Skoko and Gerald Sibon) and former Victory hero Fred has returned to don the red and white of the second Melbourne team after four seasons away in the US's Major League Soccer.

Think I would take Kewell, Solarzano, Cernak and Rojas over just Fred.
I think Heart will struggle

Melbourne with Harry there might add a bit, they've also got young Marco (Rojas) from Wellington as well who's a great player and they've got some other gifted players. It's going to be a tough one to call and I'm glad I'm not that expert that's calling it."

Kewell will be the best player in the league if his often fragile body can hold together. The signing of Marco Rojas, the talented teen from Wellington Phoenix, gives Melbourne another wonderfully skilful talent, while Isaka Cernak offers pace and dynamism down the flank.

Marco played the full 90 against Sydney.

Seemed a bit quiet from what I could tell, some nice little touches though. Kewell should of scored off his cross. (I was mostly watching the rugby though so didn't see the whole thing)

Did I miss much else?

He was hardly quiet. Involved in almost every single attacking move Melbourne made. Best outfield player in the match IMO.

Could have had 4 assists if allsop in partic took his chances. Was quiet for fair stretch in middle but once started getting ball to him he showed how has remarkable ability to create stuff.

He looked a lot sharper and I think thats something thats been coached into him. He actually looked like a 90 min player and like Patrick said, probably the best outfield player on the pitch

He looked like he was roaming a bit behind the strikers from what I saw. Kinda freelance.

I thought he looked a lot sharper. At times with us, he has the 'lackadasical' feel about him (which is not a bad thing) When I saw him on his step overs an unleash I was thinking 'hmmm looking a bit sharper'

Either way, if he keeps performing, its a positive for the national side. Ricki will have to find room for wee-mac and Rojas

Don't think it was aimed at you, just that there were quite a few people on here who claimed Marco would be lucky to get on Viktree's bench at the time of his departure.

Smithy and I thought otherwise, so his performance on Saturday night feels like a bit of a vindication.

Hands up i was one of those, just how you two can claim vindication when victory were down a couple of the guys who were there at the time of his signing. Also he seemed to playing much the same position as he did here not the one he claimed to be going there to play.

Yep had a good game still dosnt stop me being PO with his leaving though.

Clutching at straws. Firstly, Kewell wasn't there when Marco left, and there were strong indications that Kruse wouldn't be hanging around for this season. Hernandez is hardly in direct competition with Marco for a spot.

The reality is Marco always had the talent to make it over there, and Victory wouldn't have blown an import slot on him if they didn't think so either.

Are Kiwis considered imports for Aussie teams? I thought Kiwis and Aussies were treated as locals....

So how does that work with Smeltz and Moss being born there but play for NZ. Are they imports over there?

Actually I think I might be able to answer my own question. Manny plays for Malta and is not counted as an import.
