MPL: Football club twenty eleven (i assume that is what fc stands for but alternative suggestions welcome) at home to nomads next week. Football club win would see them go within 3 points of nomads. Relegation battle on.

Try in two weeks as Chatham Cup next weekend.

Nomads scored last minute for 1 1 draw.

Not at the game but heard Kamo hit post early on with Technical then scoring twice just before the break, with the fifth coming in added time, thats ten goals Bays have conceded in their last three league games.

Will be interesting to see if or how  Bays can turn it around in seven days with the two sides meeting again at Garrick in the Chatham Cup.

Played Uni Div 1 today.  Got smashed in the first half 4-0.  Second half we (Selwyn) probably played a lot harder.  Unfortunately we conceded a 5th goal in the 87th minute.  But full Credit to Uni - they are a class act and deserved their win.  I shall now go get totally drunk so that my legs don't hurt so much

Arrived at 2-0, seemed first half Uni were happily stringing 15+ passes at will and looking pretty impressive. 2nd half you have to give credit to Selwyn as they battled hard.. Could see that the Uni coaching staff were shaking their heads in the 2nd half, but i reckon Selwyn showed they  are capable at times..

This from the Mainland women's review of last weekends games -

"Coastal now move to the top of the table with 18 points, 16 ahead of Technical with Western on 11. "

If only it were true, maybe last season.

Were they shaking their heads because they couldn't get through my awesome defensive work... Or because Uni missed a few more opportunities? :)

Well I went to see what all the fuss was about yesterday, so I headed out to watch Waimak play Hornby.

What a great game of football!! The teams played the ball around nicely and didn't bother the officials all afternoon.

Hornby scored a screamer in the first half from a very talented midfielder but succumbed to the constant pressure of Waimak in the second half.

All in all a very enjoyable game to watch.

Snapshot is out, don't think I can bring myself to watch Bays and Tech, the only thing I could cheer for would be penalties.

And the Div 1 round doesn't look interesting at all. Might have to be PDL and then pretend there is a game on and go to the pub? Any better ideas?

But that's when the illustrious Sunday Premier League plays!  Altho would be good to watch some random sideline behaviour.

Speaking of which, I heard there was a bit of drama on and off the pitch in junior football last week.  Few violent occurrences that may have been taken to Mainland.

At least it's not just rugby, origin and Waimak bringing sport into disrepute.

I assume next round of Chatham Cup will see the 2 Mainland teams in a draw with the two Dndn teams? One team will be in the box seat to move through to next round.

This old chestnut. The quarter finals are open draw, so the next round after this one will be the battle of the South as per normal. After that it is game on.

I assume next round of Chatham Cup will see the 2 Mainland teams in a draw with the two Dndn teams? One team will be in the box seat to move through to next round.

Here the are rules (Regulation 12) regarding the Chatham Cup draw, these were updated in April this year.

4. COMPETITION FORMAT

4.1. All teams that have entered this competition shall compete on a knockout basis until two teams remain unbeaten.

4.2. NZF shall set the Competition Calendar on which the successive rounds of the competition will be held, or the day by which one or more rounds must be completed. Games must be played on the dates specified unless otherwise approved NZF or its nominee.

4.3. The draw for the rounds involving 32 and 16 teams (Rounds 3 and 4) shall so far is practicable have due regard for the costs of travel for participating teams, and desirability of promoting matches of such importance throughout New Zealand in order to maximise local and community involvement. For clarity the practical application of this regulation means that teams from within District Federations 1, 2 and 3 could be drawn against each other, as could teams from Federations 3 and 4, 4 and 5 and 6 and 7.

4.4. The competition will become an open draw from the quarter final stage with teams being required to travel, at their cost, throughout New Zealand.

4.5. All entrants shall be available from the Preliminary Round. The number playing in each round shall be: Qualifying Round as necessary to provide the required number of teams for Round 1. Round 1 not more than 128 teams Round 2 not more than 64 teams Round 3 not more than 32 teams Round 4 not more than 16 teams Quarterfinals not more than 8 teams

4.6. NZF shall be responsible for the draw for all games. The draw for each regional section of this competition shall be as NZF directs. The draw for the regional section of the competition shall have due regard to the costs of travel of participating teams. NZF shall, after each draw is made, advise each District Federation of the details of the games to be played and each Federation shall be responsible for notifying the teams respectively.

4.7. All teams competing in the competition shall observe the rules of the competition and any directions given by NZF concerning the promotion and conduct of matches.

4.8. NZF may at its discretion determine that certain teams do not enter the competition until later rounds.

So in the week leading up to an AB test in Chch we have Richie announcing he's on his way back. Coincidence? Me. Thinks. Not.

Meanwhile coverage so far of Chatham Cup in mainstream local press? Zip. Hopefully something tomorrow but it will be swamped in pre-test coverage.

Look on the positive side nothing about refs getting smacked in football this week, leaving it to the league boys.

It was good to see an item on young footballer Cadigan in yesterdays paper, although a few have been down the same road and now playing MPL.More have dropped out by the age of 23/25 than still playing I would think.

He's got along way to go yet as he's only done the easy part. Good on him if he and any kids coming via local junior grades can make it at a higher level.

I can name a few players from Chch played v Aussie national sec schools team, more than half of them are not playing anymore,

just the dedicated ones [5 I know of] and several of those played in an NZSS tour to europe.

Mind they at least are still playing.

Nice to see Nomads made the positve side in the press MPL report with the 2007 side getting a mention, came on a Monday after the 3 players still playing MPL from that title winning side didn't play v Coastal. On the way back up lads and as Bays are finding only one way when you get to the top, just ask a Citeh fan.

Waimak will have a relatively  comfortable win, as the school boys will be intimidated by physicality of Waimak. Haha, no hope of them getting any further though.

Tech vs Bays will be low scoring i reckon. Could go either way.

Off Mainland Site

In line with FIFA and NZF edict Mainland Football will not tolerate physical abuse of match officials

As a result of a recent incident in a Canterbury Division One match between Waimak United and Universities, a Waimak player who pushed a match official soon after the conclusion of the fixture, has been banned from participating in all Mainland Football sanctioned competitions for a minimum six month period.   CEO Mike Coggan hoped that the penalty imposed on the club, which also included a deduction of 3 competition points and a two game stand down for the coach, would send a very clear message to all clubs that this behaviour will not be tolerated.  “Referees across all codes are human and make mistakes but they shall not be subjected to any level of physical abuse.  They are sacrosanct in that regard and must be protected.  They play a huge part in the enjoyment of Football and without them our game would suffer.  Waimak United admitted the incident occurred and named a different player than the one initially banned.  The initial penalty of nine months stand down against the player has been rescinded by the Mainland Football Disciplinary Committee and a different player has received a six month penalty.  As a consequence of a video presented, the Disciplinary Committee will meet again on Wednesday night to review discrepancies in previous information supplied by Waimak United”.

WOW!!! It seems that there is a witch hunt to make Waimak into a bunch of monsters!!! I went to watch them play against Hornby last week and there was no hint of trouble whatsoever, I remember one booking for a challenge the whole game.

Also speaking to a few guys around the ground I found out that the instigator of the trouble against Uni was AR1 who charged towards the coach in the dressing room door of the Waimak players.

A question.... Why is there no mention in the press about the AR1 who by most accounts was totally out of order?

The officials have a code of conduct to uphold as well, are they being investigated or is it just the Waimak club being dragged through the press with no right to reply???

Hey I heard this too.  Dude has a history of this apparently.  There is a lot of talk about clubs keeping to the codes of conduct, but who's keeping the officials in line.  Coggan says referees are sacrosanct but if they cross the line then surely there has to be a consequence for them.

Has anyone heard if the spectator assaulted by the AR is following up with an assault charge?  A mate in the Police heard this might be being investigated.

Chatham Cup Results

Cashmere Tech 2 Ferrymead Bays 0 HT 2 - 0

Danny Boys opened with a penalty in the opening half after Jamie Smith missed a sitter in the opening minute. Bays then unluckly not to be award a pen when Russell Kamo was brought down early in the 2nd half with Boys then adding his second from a corner, with stand in keeper seemed to miss completely. Tech could have added a couple more late in the game.

I think you will find in that game Waimak were on notice from Mainland.. After watching the Waimak v Uni match the behavior from their players, supporters and their coach towards the Uni players and the officials was appalling, and apparently this is not the first time either. It is common knowledge that Uni have video evidence of the incidents and from what I hear it is quite incriminating against Waimak, also considering they have made it clear that it was another player involved when it wasn't they may find themselves in deeper trouble for lying about the player/s involved.. Will be interesting to see what happens from here with the evidence that wasn't available previously now available.
