With Nestor, we have to be really mindful, and I've met with Nestory on a couple occasions in the past months, and it's just such an emotional player and what's happened to him this season, I think he's on a roller coaster 24/7. That's just the way he is, that's how it's gone, and we have to look at the bigger picture. And I'm definitely looking at the bigger picture, and that's we want Nestor to be a 10-year plus Socceroo.
He's going to be the future of the national team that's for sure. And we just have to be mindful of what we do with him in the national team space. And at the moment, and we don't want to damage him. What he's got coming up (impending move to Bayern Munich). And you want a player who's really there mentally. So the welfare of the player is number one, he's just turned 18. And that's a big ask for him to come in and all these expectations from people outside.
Because I asked that to him about the expectation and it's been challenging for him. And to throw that on a young kid, as I said it can do more damage. We know the talent that he has, but we are very confident with the squad that we have all around the field, we've actually got players who can score goals. And as I said, the bigger picture is Nestory for the national team forever and a day and we don't want to hurt that at the moment.
.... There's things that we can't really discuss and talk about and the human being is number one, the person as I said. He's been through so much this year. I hate to be in his shoes... Everyone wants a piece of him. And yes, I understand playing for the national team is a huge thing. And I've spoken to him about that. And I think he just wants to play football for his club, and then get ready for that next part of his journey. He's just turned 18, there's a big, big ask for him.
... I could be selfish, and just bring him in for the sake of that, but dealing with players and having that relationship with them, you find out so much more about him. And we feel that yeah, as I said the bigger picture is is the national team, the Socceroos - you want to be talking about him for the next 15 years as a national team player, and not one that it becomes a difficult thing for him to do because he's dealing with a lot. And that's something that we have to be really aware of and as national teams, that's our focus. That's our number one, and we were looking down the road for him.
