You can see from this YouTube screen grab of our game today on the A League official stream just how much foreign gambling is involved in the competition.

I never see anything but bookies in A League games, no matter where in the world I watch or which game is on.

Oh every footy league in the world mate. As I roughly said somewhere it’s like booze or smokes used to be and is as destructive.

Agree.
I enjoy a bet or two (lost money today) but I do not need it rammed down my neck. Gambling is worse in many ways then the other two vices as it often destroys families, leaving them penniless and in debt, while fuelling crime from addicted gamblers and third party fixers/organised crime syndicates.

I'm really surprised the UK is so happy to see it marketed everywhere. While NZ and Australia are bad, the UK is appalling. I can only imagine what places like China are like.

Australia is bad as well. Definitely worse than NZ. There was an annoying immaculately grommed git (Tom Waterhorse son of legendary horse trainer Gai) who about 10 years was everywhere on the media, promoting his gambling business.

Then for awhile every HT break in NRL game it was a stream of gambling adverts. Thankfully there was a moral push back on that. There is still a multitude of bettings ads. But they all now end with the 'you win some, you lose more' warning. That's something.

A lot is illegal in China. Hence all the advertising of internet Chinese gambling through EPL clubs shirts and match day signs to web sites that are nominally based in the Philippines. The link is to a video explainer by a Hull City fan who has a soccer channel:
https://youtu.be/xhf7Z3zvx5M?si=XW2tA7Ui0uEI_axI

The US has had a year or two of legal sports gambling so that’s all about to explode in sharke as well.

In Japan, shame of shame, the great switch hitter and pitcher Shohei Ohtani has had his translator steal from him to pay for a gambling habit.

Macarthur CEO Sam Krslovic said he spoke with Davila on Friday, stating the Mexican was "full of remorse" and "upset that he did it".

But Mr Krslovic said he focused on providing counselling for his player rather than discussing the allegations with him.

"I didn't go into it all ... but what's been alleged, there's obviously some merit to it," he told 2GB Sydney on Friday night.

Had missed these quotes. Gotta wish good luck to Davila if he has any intention of denying the charges when his CEO has basically blabbed that he admitted to it.

From the way it’s been handled it would seem that the cops are very very sure of their facts and very confident of conviction.

Might be a blessing in disguise for MA. The 3/4/5 players could well be on a lot of coin, especially the foreigners. Will save the club loads.

I "love" how the cops send in swat squads to arrest them for questioning. Must be hard nose serious criminals - NOT! What is alleged to have happened is wrong, but to send in swat?? Overkill at its best.

I'd be giving the Cops a Yellow Card for that overkill but then, they might want to investigate any impropriety.

I would imagine the use of SWAT gear in standard when a search warrant is executed - given thye don't know what is behind the door.

Just because they are footballers, doesn't mean their not capable of doing someone harm.

And they're linked to an international betting syndicate - at a guess, these individuals aren't great stand up guys.

A simpler solution would have been not to do something in the first place that invites them in to raid your home!

We know that the players are likely not dangerous, but they are also linked to South American organised crime, which is no laughing matter.

Overkill sure, but it's likely standard with the types of organisations these players are involved in.

Apparently Baccus is in court next week, and Davila & Lewis will be in court in late June. Will be fascinating to find out more about exactly what went through these buffoons' heads.

Why do I get the feeling we're going to be seeing a shark load more of these over the next while?

Probably a different punishment charter down this part of the world as well. But this is what's on the line for all involved.

Any word on whether one of these guys was the alleged 4th player not in NSW that they reported about the other week? Or are these guys numbers 5 and 6?

At this rate, Macarthur will fold. Dare I say it, but going back to the days of clubs needing to hit "metrics" which ones exactly are Macarthur hitting?

There must be innocent people caught up. I can't believe that many players in 1 team would take on that sort of risk.

you'd think if five people (and counting) were involved then others in the team would have been approached and turned them down. Not implausible that someone within the MacArthur playing squad was helping the police.
