Been enjoying this. Not really a gamer, so it's also an in to see twitch culture.
Anyone watching Pogchamps 3? (Chess with gamers and Dwight)
Twitch culture is some surreal shark for sure
yeah, being a huge chess guy and having grown up with Youtube/Twitch I've kept up with it a fair bit. Nice to see contestants taking it very seriously and putting a lot of time into their craft

Critical underperformed. Stressed himself out.
Annoyed me how much Hikaru and Levy were hoping for Ludwig to win and ignoring Logic.
Wonder if there's any engine use!

Yeah, Critikal’s games were frustrating to watch. He had imo the best public chess teacher on the planet right now in Daniel Naroditsky, and performed very well with him in training at a level well above 1000 ELO, but panicked and forgot everything he learned once he stepped into games.
Don’t like listening to Hikaru at all imo, and Levy’s a little stuck up for my tastes too. Ludwig’s my pick to win the whole thing though - the speed and determination with which he picks new things up is crazy
edit: two hours later and Ludwig's eliminated...

Can't stand Levy. Don't watch his videos. This tourney is all about the people and their stories and in the first broadcast he just talked the whole interview. It's supposed to be like a sports show not a private stream.
That Ludwig v. Sardoche game was amazing. Did you see when Ludwig did blindfold? He's got photographic memory. Ludwig played to his hype today. Such great play.
Hikaru I sometimes enjoy. Watched a bit of his stuff. He was great with Danny today. Danny is great. I'm a fan of Robert Hess as a broadcaster for this stuff. He is aware of all the different audiences and knows how to mix drama, banter and analysis. But so many fun folk streaming and streaming chess or doing videos.
I didn't think Lud would win- the others are totally chess focused- he was talking about subs and doing comedy between games. He was a bit hot and cold.
Enjoy the consolation bracket too- seeing how quickly players pick it up. No one was hopeless this tourney.
Liked watching the pro-chess league too. 4 games at once gets tense and it rachets up.
With the pogchamps half of it is the chess, half of it is the soap opera of Hikaru, xQc, QTCinderella, Lud, the Botez sisters etc. etc.!
actually would like to see them do a pogchamps champions thing- maybe with longer matches. Or Rapid/blitz/bullet style head to heads with hafu et al.
while I'm doing chess/football crossover it's only fair to mention this:
And this :
That time when the chess world champion was top of the Premier League Fantasy football
What an insane final, Sardoche takes it out against Dwight Schrute. Can't say I knew who Sardoche was before the tournament, but that was some really great chess.
Pretty much agree with every single thing you said too. Everyone was surprisingly competent and took the tournament/preparation extremely seriously. No truly bad chess was played, almost all matches seemed above 1000 ELO. Pokimane, Neeko and MrBeast (just because of how terrible he was a month or two ago) especially stunned me

That final move was awesome. He only saw the fork too I think. With 3 pieces hanging.
Enjoyed it. Just mostly play 1 min bullet to kill time, but have enjoyed the personalities in these games. Neeko blew me away. Agressive- complicating and playing quick. But not really blundering. And timed her tournament run well. Bengy was good, but realised he was doing well and went cautious. Could have beaten Rain. Even Tubbo who annoyed me at first played some good stuff- think it was against Rain too? One really glorious attack.
Some players like Poki would play great and then just make one mistake.
Feel like in the top bracket 3-4 matches could have gone another way.
