Why Asia? Why not just get the same team to travel to NZ after first match. See how they respond to the travel etc. I'm sure a El Salvador or a Guatemala would be accomodating

I hightly doubt they would be accommodating  what would they get out of flying halfway around the world for a game of football and then flying back straight afterwards? It would be very expensive for them, and as Asia is much closer it would require much less travel time and be cheaper

Okay so we've qualified now for the inter continental playoff later this year. With no Confederations Cup this time around we seriously need to arrange some competitive internationals in the next few months to prepare for a potential clash with Costa Rica or Honduras.

I'm a big fan of a game in London against Canada and I'd put money on another test against Australia (hhopefully in NZ this time). A mini tour in May/June to the USA again would be a good idea, perhaps play Trinidad and Panama in the US?

And then two games at home in September against someone like China, Japan, Thailand, Korea or Malaysia?

I wonder what it would take to get England over for a couple of games in May 2015? I'd love to see that

I hope not. T S's hoped for saviour, Indian businessman Ahsan Aly Syed, owner of bankrupt Spanish 2 Div club Racing Santander, has had a warrant issued for his arrest in Bahrain, where he has been sheltering from fleeced Irish, Australian and NZ property developers since 2011.

So, Ricki confirms no All Whites matches till August. Any solid rumours who our opponents will be? Maybe Australia in one game?

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/8611171/Herbert-eager-for-tougher-games-for-All-Whites

"We're pencilled to play warmup games in August, two games in September, two in October and the big games are in November," said Herbert, who was in Taranaki this week with his football academy running coaching sessions at the invitation of the Inglewood Football Club.

Herbert said the All Whites squad was a far younger side than the one that went through unbeaten in the last World Cup.

"Now that we've qualified for the fourth round, I think it will be good to pit them against some pretty tough opposition (yet to be confirmed).

"We did it last [World Cup] and the lead-up games were tough then. I think it really stood us in good stead for what we faced later on."

Herbert is contracted as All Whites head coach until New Zealand's World Cup campaign finishes.

"That could be November but hopefully it will be until June," he said on Sunday.

This is who I would play until the play-off
14/08 Canada @ Craven Cottage, London
06/09 Trinidad and Tobago @ Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland
10/09 El Salvador @ Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
11/10 South Korea @ Seoul World Cup Stadium, Seoul
15/10 Japan @ National Olympic Stadium, Tokyo

The play-off will be either Jamaica and Honduras.

Has been mentioned that the opponents will be from Asia & Concacaf, but no mention of teams. Personal assumption would be that there won't be a game in NZ, Look to games in USA (Against Central American teams), and wouldn't be surprised to see us play the Japan game delayed by Tsunami, then who knows.

I heard RH saying they want to replicate the home&away scenario with a CONCACAF team so will have a game in NZ.

Oh hadn't heard that, had just assumed would all be away as it costs so much to get a team here. Wonder if they will do with one team or if it will be two different teams.
What is the rule around playing within two different Federations (Location of games) within one window? (I know there is an exception for Playoffs, but is there one for Friendlies?)

I heard Canada in August but ?

If that's the case perhaps it would make sense to take on El Salvador and Guatemala in September or October given these 3 were the teams who just missed the hex...

Same team he mentioned; one not involved (or likely to be - of course) in the playoff or qualified so perhaps El Salvador or similar?... hoping we'll soon find out :)

Ricki in today's paper: http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/sport/phoenix/8778661/Lochheads-All-Whites-spot-not-under-threat

ALL WHITES FRIENDLY OPPONENTS TO BE CONFIRMED IN NEXT WEEK (PROBABLY)

"From a preparation point of view, Herbert is confident New Zealand Football will be able to organise matches in each of the upcoming Fifa windows. He didn't give anything away about who the August and September opponents might be, but is hopeful a CONCACAF side can be found for home and away matches in the October window.

"That would replicate what we're doing in November so we're working hard on that," he said.

He expected confirmation of the All Whites' friendly foes within the next week or so.

Herbert will also be taking a keen interest in the performance of the New Zealand team at this month's Fifa U-20 World Cup in Turkey. Players tend to go to these tournaments hoping to attract the interest of professional clubs, but Herbert said some have the opportunity to play themselves into the All Whites as well.

"For me it's not about age, it'll be about performance and if we felt one, two or more are capable of being part of the national squad for

the qualifiers, then we'd bring them in."

I've tried to defend NZF in the past but I honestly can't this time with this whole friendlies/ticket price for WC Qualifying thing. It is absolute bullshit that they can't even keep us in the loop of what progress is or isn't been made. They have some serious communication issues. The sad thing is that they have a captive audience, we will all just muddle on, buy our tickets, attend games, watch games, blindly support the team but NZF obviously don't give a fuck..... really disappointing.....

Worryingly, there are still no warmup games confirmed for the international windows in August, September and October.

NZF high performance manager Fred de Jong said there was now a "high likelihood" that the August window would pass the All Whites by.

However, the plan was to play two games in September and another two in October....

"We haven't signed any contracts, we're close on a contract at the moment for September," de Jong said.

"We are still in negotiations for October. We're trying to get as many Concacaf opponents as we can so we're trying to work through that. The ideal would have been to go to the Confederations Cup and you really feel that pain now. The ability to get games on the back of the Confederations Cup, as we saw four years ago, is a lot easier.

"At the moment you've got to work that much harder to put a campaign together and it's way more expensive. That's the price of missing out in Honiara."

De Jong met All Whites coach Ricki Herbert and assistant Brian Turner in Auckland yesterday to try to firm up their plans.

He hoped two games would be against Concacaf opponents while a September tournament in Saudi Arabia was a possibility.

The NZF brains trust had sharpened their focus to preparing for Honduras and Panama as their most likely opponents come November.

Actually, moving on from my suggestion re annual All Whites v Oz matches, why not All Whites v China, now that we're so pally? In today's Herald Brian Rudman notes that according to the 1996 census 19% of Auckland's pop (268,600) identified themselves as Asian, and by 2021 this proportion will have jumped to 30% (469,800 on projected figures).

So why don't NZF suggest to China we play them on a regular basis, e.g. annually, home and away? Fonterra to promote. Auckland to host.

Last time I saw China play in Auckland, at Western Springs in 1996, there was a last minute stampede to get in. About 13,000 were there as I recall. Tho it was probably Rufer that was the drawcard.
