Sure the rankings have their faults, and punish teams like the All Whites who barely play, but the Emerald Isle are ranked 33. That's 4 places higher than football darlings Iceland. Higher than Scotland, Australia, Czech Rep, Russia, Japan.

The complete playing eleven in their last game against Denmark, were either EPL or Championship players. Hard to see a journeyman striker playing in Poland, and now at the bottom of the world getting a look in.

Wood will be getting some stick at Burnley training now. Four Irishmen on the books at Turf Moor. All 4 pretty much current internationals.
