I think it's a kinda stupid nickname, and has racist connotations even though they're not at all intentional, and so NZF at least shouldn't use it for marketing etc. Fans/media/whoever can still call the team whatever they like.
I don't think NZF or anyone else can manufacture a replacement nickname so even if NZF stops marketing the team as the All Whites it will stick around as a nickname unless something else comes along - which is unlikely given we never play a game.
The best I have come up with is Phantom Ferns - again, not easy to manufacture these things.
