I think when the hugely experienced Thomas hopefully becomes available the logic to keep Smith in the squad as a player, is dead and buried. Time to join the coaching staff.

Tuiloma is only there because Payne, Roux & Wilkins are all out. Neither Kirwan or Ingham offer really strong compelling cases as alternatives.

Waine is yes lucky.

But Garbett makes things happen. He has real self belief & a combative attitute. So close to creating a Wood goal against Costa Rica. Scores against China at the ROF and Ireland in Dublin.

The AWs goal scoring record against top 100 teams recently is awful.

Since Peru in June 2022, it's 6 goals - being oggie, Garbett (both China 2023), McCowatt (Sweden 2023), Wood (pen verus Congo 2023), Garbett (Ireland 2023) & Waine (jammy faceplant USA 2024). Think I have that right.

The Garbett x2 and McCowatt (Garbett assist) goals are the only real created goals from open play, in those 16 games. Also at the Paris Olympics Garbett scores against Guinea (2-1 win) and has the assist for Randall's goal against the USA (4-1 loss).

Matt G provides one of the few scoring/creative threats the AWs have. Hopefully he's got some level of match fitness, even if it's off the pine.

Eli Just maybe scoring goals for fun against Fiji and Austrian youth prospects, but he's running the risk of Rojas & Barba like, and having a bit of a toothless record against bigger teams. Hopefully he's reading this and shuts me up in Toronto!
