Wood barely played last season for Forest so should have gone to the WC fresh as a daisy. He didn’t score but in the first game especially against Iran he was immense

Mark Viduka had a storied EPL career but infamously in Aussie never scored a "big goal" for the Socceroos. Only 11 goals in 43 matches.
Doubles against Solomons, Singapore & Thailand.
1 goal against each of Mexico, Tunisia, Jamaica, Ireland & Iraq.
5 of his goals in friendlies.

Peter Crouch another? 22 goals in 44 games is respectable. But pretty much none of them were really important.

Might just be it’s sadly the same for the Woodsman. Doesn’t mean the AWs ain’t a majorly better team with him in the side. That non goal v Costa Rica in 2022 no doubt a pebble in his shoe, and I'm suire now and again he gets reminded of it.
