I’m not a big fan of the other one either.

Could you imagine having to travel between Buenos Aires, Bilbao and Agadir. About the only people who will like this will be IAG. They will make a killing flying people between Europe, SA and North Africa.

Yeah on face value it seems pretty dumb, giving the opening 3 games (one each) to Anniversary match hosts - Uruguay, Paraguay & Argentina.

But we are only talking only 3 from 104 games, and 6 of the 48 teams being affected. Still it would suck if it was the AWs who were one of those 6 teams, ie one third of the AWs 3 pool games being in Sth America. That wouldn't be great.

A 48 team WC does have 6.5 CONMEBOL & 6.5 CONCACAF teams, so a fair chance all 3 pool matches could be arranged to be a CONEMBOL team verus a CONCACAF team - so reducing travel & expenses for fans.

Concept a bit unfair for the 7 CONMEBOL teams outside of Uruguay, Paraguay & Argentina as those 3 teams all automatically qualify, even though they only host 1 game each.

Otherwise I reckon Spain, Portugal and Morocco is a good mix as co hosts. Reasonably short travel distances, awesome food, great stadiums etc. Good public transport. Morocco has Africa's only high speed train system. But then I'm a bit biased as I'd love to live in Andalusia (probably Malaga) one day.

An optimist would say hosting the World Cup will drive some positive change in Saudi. I think having seen the controversies around Qatar, the Saudis will be smart enough to treat the cheap Indian/Pakistan/Banga construction (slave) labour force with a bit more care.

I note the LGBTQAH+P outfit are already upset and trying to get reassurances. The the Back handed FIFA chief is batting for them. However what happens in Saudi Arabia, stays in Saudi Arabia and they have a very strict policy on such things.

Then you have workers rights etc.
The "LGBTQAH+P outfit" is certainly an interesting description, haven't seen that one before. As a queer person I just won't consider going to that one, not keen on contributing to the economy/reputation/legitimacy of a country like that.

Your safety couldn't be guaranteed.  People should boycott it, but they won't.

Surely 2038 goes to Aus (and potentially us) right? going off the rotation they're the only one's left. NA in 2026, SA, Africa and Europe in 2030, AFC in 2038, unless they go to Antarctica, Oceania is the only continent left.

2034 is AFC so the rotation would say that 2038 should be North America again

Can't see it. How many big statiums do Aussie have?

Only Eden Park here would capacity for any world cup game.

As an adoptive Newcastle United supporter I can relate to this: I was as happy as anyone to see the back of Mike Ashley, but I wish he'd sold the club to just about anyone other than the Saudis (at least it didn't come down to a toss-up between them and your friendly local Russian oligarch).

Sure, they promised to keep investing in the women's game and fan groups like United with Pride were cautiously optimistic it could be a catalyst for change, but personally I felt very uncomfortable participating in their sportswashing.

But hey, that discomfort (and the ridiculous amount of fun I had attending WWC games) got me off my butt and actively supporting the Nix - I'll always have a soft spot for the Toon but it feels better putting my time and money into my local club.

If they're willing to play on oval fields then 11.

5 - 40k-50k
3 - 50k-60k
1 - 61,266 (expandable to 70,000)
2 - 80k+ (MCG is limited to 88k for FIFA matches

throw in Eden park then that's 12.

Hell, if you wanna do us, Aus and Indonesia then we'd have 19 stadiums which would be 3 more venues than what will be in the 2026 WC

The argument with FIFA re an Aussie/NZ/Indonesia bid for 2038, would be 2034 is West AFC and East AFC hasn’t hosted a WC since Japan and Sth Korea in 2002

AFC being a huge Confed in size plus OFC (NZ as a co host) never having hosted a WC.

AFC nations can't bid in 2038 or 2042 because of the twisted rotation rules. But you wonder if they might have to considering only CONCACAF and OFC will be eligible to bid then.

When you only give CONMEBOL 3 games in 2030, I think the whole rules about WCs rotating between the Confeds has to become flexible. Also with CONCACAF basically having only the same 3 countries capable of hosting a WC
