More South American qualifying games overnight. After 8 of 18 rounds Ecuador are in 5th spot but only 5 pts separate the top 7 sides, so still long way to go
I'd say only bottom 3 sides - Venezuela, Peru and
Jaume, Jaume, Jaume you really need to cheer up a bit ;-)
When we got Commebol as our playoff opponents (assuming we win Oceania) the World Cup in Russia became a pipe dream what we have to look at now is which team we could get for
1 - TV revenue that it will generate
2 - where would be a great away trip
3 - which top players would we get to see in NZ (for those that can't make the away trip)
My pick in order of preference would be
Argentina - never played them, it's a great country to visit, oh and MESSI
Brazil - played then 3 times yet to score so about time we did, oh and it's BRAZIL
Chile - decent team, played 6 times yet to win, decent sized Chilean community in NZ
Colombia - need revenge for 3-1 loss at 2003 Confed Cup, could get Coca-Cola to sponsor the game
Uruguay - similar country to NZ ie pop 4 mill, economy farming based, get to visit Buenos Aires on way to Montevideo
Venezuela - along with Boliva probably the only team in COMMEBOL we'd have a chance of beating, and I'd rather visit Venezuela
Paraguay - bit of meh, they made the 2011 Copa America final without winning a game, not exciting to watch
Peru - being Scottish I have a natural aversion to this country (think 1978 world cup) and Paddington Bear didn't really come from there
Bolivia - La Paz is only 451 meters less in height than Aoraki \ Mt Cook
Nevermind...;-)
