And yeah, those Mexico games and those squads are something to look back on. Really underlines how much better the players we have at our disposal are now overall, there is no excuse for us to not try and be competitive with sides like Mexico and the USA, so I really do hope we see some good contests. And if we don't, I don't want to see comments being like, we are just little old NZ we had no chance what else did you expect. We really need to be seeing something much better than Hudsonball.

All I remember of that Confeds game in 2017 was yes Lewis's peach of a pass, and the frustrated Mexicans not at all liking our physical approach. There was an all in melee at one point. This after our limp display in game 1 verus hosts Russia.

The highlights, also show a young Dane Ingham completely out of his depth back then. Both Mexican goals from down his flank. Of course not his fault Hudson chucked him in the deep end so young.

Forgot that Thomas hit the woodwork late on. He sadly hasn't played for the AWs in nearly 5 years now, but man you couldn't fault his commitment and quality in 2017. He was an absolute machine against Peru a few months later at the ROF.

Whether we can get a result this time will depend alot on how strong the lineups are that either the Mexicans (18th in FIFA's rankings) or US (17th) run out with. They both have Canada as their likely target game this window.

We drew with the US in that mirror tour of 2016 (played them & Mexico stateside), but the Americans from memory played a virtual 3rd string side of solely MLS guys. Monty Patterson with a scrappy goal.

Dare USMNT to try that again. We yes have a much better squad this time.
