Best thing from the half was our cohesion and passing.  Someone would take a ball down, and get it to another man, they'd find someone else, and hold it forward.

This is what I want to see, because when we're against someone at the WC we need those skills to make use of the ball we get.

Interesting. Everyone was saying the Aussies would field an average side, did they put their best 11 out, or at least a decent 11?

Couple of big guns missing - their no.1 goalie (schwartzer (sic?)) and Kewell, their best striker. There are a couple who won't be going to S.A.

That's v encouraging. Kewels a'has-been IMHO but Schwartz's is huge for them. Still, we're more thn holding our own. sh*t...

It's not NZFC, don't these things have to be official in internatioanls?

The trouble with the long balls wide to the wide strikers is that even if they recieve it they are isolated from support from midfield. the long ball makes the distances between mid and forwards too far for support

six subs and a keeper? I think we'd be well served giving JB some game time, just in case.

I think the midfield mia is because we are bypassing midfield and they cant get forward from defensive work as fast as the long ball travels to help the forwards.

Absolute;y no midfield. That smith throw-in was level with their box. One big defensive punt and it bounds through the centre circle and to our backline...

Smith with a great cross and Fallon with a strong header, but too direct, straight at the keeper.

Sounds like the game is opening up quite nicely.
With Wood and Brockie we should have a bit more mobility up front now.
