It would serve no real purpose and probably lose money. The ALM clubs and coaches highly likely dead against it

Even the NRL can’t organise a regular ANZAC Kangaroos v Kiwis test match. And their code has all the best players down under

A Nix and Auckland double header against 2 Aussie clubs at one venue, on a rotation basis an alternative idea
Surely Nix vs Auckland FC would be tastier and the idea of rivalries, state of origin or national teams? Do clubs have freedom to organise their own events in preseason?

Friendlies between rivals should never be played.

Cancel the Socceroos game then? Shouldn't need a competition to play for, or any more motivation than the enemy themselves, that is the derby. Regardless of league status or position, if it's a cup game or not, it's always a derby if it's a derby.

Not wanting to drag this thread too far off topic, but from today's men's first team update:

Will we have more pre-season games in New Zealand?

We play a number of pre-season games in New Zealand as far as the Central League opposition. Now that Auckland’s had their season in the league and we’ve already played them three times we do want to have a couple of games with them in pre-season. I need to set up a call with Terry [McFlynn] (Auckland FC director of football) to have a chat with him about that and what that might look like based on their schedule and our schedule.

Not sure how the timing would look around the AW games and U20s, but potentially something to look forward to.
