Why? The total balls up of a trip to the Usa as our pre world cup warm up for a start. The lack of quality teams to play against. There are countries out there that would would have obliged, surely. That the players were told to turn up at the airport without a clue of whom they were in a squad with is another.

Fred certainly has not helped but then there are others that are equally as guilty as well. I don't think Fred is effective by any measure of his job but having only been in it 18 months he hardly has time to shape a programme whereby he has inherited a WOF program that is well imbedded. Yes the build up could have been done better but would a better build up have materially affected the result? For anyone that watched the Mexico series with 2 eyes, I don't think we would have beaten them across 2 legs to make it to WC. A different team in Concacaf or the Asian team - sure. But certainly not Mexico or the Conmebol team

Had there been a CEO of the operation (and not McNumpty or Aspden who is filling in) I think there would have been a hell of a lot more organisation. Considering they don't have many people at the HO and the pool of people wanting to work for them would be shrinking with each article written, I think we are largely in a position of we are getting what we have got because that's all we have got.

2010 was a perfect storm with personnel, the team we played against and the build up. 2014 had none of those elements and Fred alone in not responsible for all of that.
