NZ Football's press release has typically stuffed-up.

Those dates are local Brazilian time.

We in NZ are 15 - 17 hours ahead of Brazil (depending on which part of Brazil).

Hence the actual NZ dates for the above games are August 4, 7 and 10.

There seems to be a type of sickness that lies upon NZF.

One wrong step took Football Ferns star Hannah Wilkinson from a certain selection for next month's Olympics, to a 50-50 prospect.

The 1.75m forward was this week named in the 18-strong New Zealand squad headed to Rio after a overcoming a serious knee injury.

Wilkinson, one of the Football Ferns' most prolific goal scorers, was just two minutes into an exhibition match for her University of Tennessee side last August when disaster struck before she'd even had a chance to touch the ball.

An awkward change of direction caused Wilkinson's knee to buckle, rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament.

Once the shock of the pain wore off, Wilkinson had just one thought: "Rio".

The 24-year-old, who made her international debut at 17, spoke to She's Got Gamethis week about her tough road back to full fitness.

"The first thing I thought of was Rio," said Wilkinson, who was this week confirmed in the 18-strong Football Ferns line-up for Rio.

"I did have some doubts initially, but I knew if I worked hard I would make it back to how I looked before on the field, so through a lot hard work, I think I'm pretty close now.

"Thankfully I didn't do it any later, I would have been cutting it pretty fine."

She's Got Game Episode 6: Football Fern completes toughest road to Rio

And finally, we talk to two athletes still chasing Olympic selection - Football Ferns' defender Meikayla Moore and weightlifter Tracey Lambrechs - and find out how they are dealing with the pressure as crunch time looms.

Or the press release just said what day the games actually are, and didn't suggest anywhere that they were NZ times. Hardly the biggest blunder.

Just looking at some of the american sports websites, they think we'll get "treated with respect" and get slapped 5-0/1.

Hope the girls show the yanks up today.  C'mon you Ferns!!!

Is there any betting website that's offering NZ to not score a goal throughout the tournament? Maybe we'll score 1 max but we're facing three tough teams.

I just hate the NZ Herald, its been hopeless with coverage of football for as long as I can remember. It always reacts after events and never is ahead of the curve.

Today in a few hours the Football Ferns play, possibly the first Kiwi's in action at these Olympics and on their sports main page on there website is no mention of the upcoming game this morning. No game preview just a story about one Football Ferns journey through football which was posted 3 weeks ago.

Even when I go to the Olympics section there is no mention of the game or preview. First Kiwis in action and you wouldnt know it.

I shouldnt be surprised.

One of the problems when John Herdman was in charge was that he had the players truely believing they could win the WC or Olympics and when they fell well short the players seriously struggled with it. When he left they felt betrayed. Readings is very popular among the players because he is generally very honest with them and from what I have heard practices what he preaches. Heres hoping he knows something we dont. The biggest battle in the last few years has been scoring goals, fingers crossed they have found some answers to that.

Half time 1-0 to the US.  we're getting into their box more then they are in ours but our strikers look clueless again, just like they did in Canada last year.  The Ferns really need a Chris Wood or Shane Smeltz type to progress long term I think.

2-0 full time, as Aitkenmike said, second goal very soft, keeper and defender both fast asleep and beaten on the near post.  Not a bad showing all up but we never looked like scoring.

This group is going to be cut-throat. It will be interesting after we see how Colombia and France go.

2-0 isnt a bad score considering. The French womans team are the big worry i believe, they have 2 very very fast wide players who can both cross with either foot. I think the French could win Gold.

Sadly some of our problems are similar to the mens. 95% of all our long balls forward in this game ended up as lost possession. Why do our coaches keep asking our players to do things which have such a high failure rate?
