4 evening trainings a week plus weekend game for older kids. Surprised is only that, as I thought they also did early morning (before school) trainings as well. Maybe morning trainings are just for the kids in the Senior Academy Group - ie First & Reserve teams at Wests?

Certainly Mad Hatter Declan is a strong proponent of the '10,000 hours concept' (as in Malcolm Gladwell's popular book “Outliers.”). Think Ben Sipola's also a fan of it. In many ways Ole's training philosophy seems built off it.

Be interesting to know what hours they do at the Future Ferns Domestic Programme (FFDP), as I'd agrue that compared to the Nix & Ole Academies they haven't had the same alumni success. But yeah good numbers of young girls coming into Weenix, and the better players from that progressing to Nix Women's team will hopefully improve things alot for the Women's game.

Interesting to read that Paige Satchell at high school was a competitive runner, winning a national age group cross country title at age 13. I wonder if she had gone to either Weenix or Ole would they have let her continue to be a runner. Certainly in her early Ferns games, running to the corner flag was her go to!

Not the best comparison, but Ben Old was a top youth golfer. Invited to play in some US tournaments as a 7 year old. But I imagine once moving from Auckland to Weenix into a full time academy environment, (well before breaking into the first team), he's played a lot less rounds of golf.
