The boys that are at the Weenix academy and with Ole- how many hours per week were they training? Has that opportunity been available for females? If it has I assume it’s a recent development and the fruits of that effort won’t be in the Ferns team for another few years. I do feel with licences coaches and a curriculum/ playing style to follow all players will improve significantly if they are in a full time environment- witness the improvement of the majority of the Phoenix womens team.

I think the big thing that Esson brings to the Ferns defence is clarity from her calling- Naylor is very quiet by comparison. I don’t think she needs to come off her line so often - maybe hardly ever if Erceg is playing. It was noticeable that when Vine came on she stood in front of Esson and impeded her getting close to the ball, when before that she was able to get a hand to the ball.

I think we haven’t had the right players in midfield to get the results we are capable of. And I think we try and play 15-30m passes when we need to be closer to each other and play 8-12m passes to side ball possession. They can’t connect and link up play as they are too far apart often.  I would like to see the mids and forwards look to beat players with combination play rather than through 1-1 play or speed because asides from Satchell none of our players cause other teams an issue with our lack of  pace - maybe Jale could be an option- couldn’t understand why she was asked to play central midfield on Friday night???

If all players are recovered/available
I would like to see in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation prior to the WC
                  Esson/Leat
Riley  Bunge Erceg Ally Green
           Bowen and CJ Bott
Satchell   Ria/White   Chance
                Jale/Wilkinson

Looking forward to seeing an improvement in possession and attacking intent in Tuesday’s game
