Here is a good write up on the game.

I think he makes a good point about world rankings. Are the ferns really #22 in the world. Results over last 5 years would suggest otherwise. so I think some here have to get realistic about this team. We come from a country that has no professional women's football and only one professional women's team and that team has only been for one year and they are only allowed 11 NZ players in that team. Compare that to the counties we regularly play and you could argue we are actually punching above our weight.
Women's football has gone from strength to strength internationally and there is no doubt we have been left well behind on that front. To me NZF are doing every they can to not get left behind even further.
Could we get a better coach?. Yes of course, if you are willing to spend the money. would it make that much difference with the playing pool we currently have. I'm not sure.
I think this team actually needs to play more games against teams at there own level like Wales, Iceland and the likes. So we can build structure and team cohesion in competitive games and introduce some of our younger players to this level of football. We seem to be in a rebuilding stage so maybe a step back to go forward for this team to learn and grow wouldn't be so bad. And having a coach on a long contract for some consistency in that rebuild makes sense.
NZF just don't have the same money to invest as the likes of Europe and USA.
Maybe we just need to learn to celebrate the small victories more.

Maybe we just need to learn to celebrate the small victories more. Because we ain't world beaters. Just like the men's team over the last 10 years or so.
And just like the men's team the Football Ferns really lack meaning-full competitive games against opposition that are at a similar level.
