There is no way that we're going to keep up with the South American flair through the middle of the park. They'll run our old fellas ragged. Santa Cruz for a hat-trick.

 - big yawn, that Loser Laws  - time has passed him by.  Totally out of touch.
But I do remember that column - and didn't think much of it then either.

I loved the guts and glory on display. I also thought the Italians did alot of good
things and definitely were not complacent.  I also remember one world cup (1986 ?)- when they
barely got out of their group - but went on to win.

Getting my Phoenix season tickets tomorrow, but am starting to worry(*) if some of our players and coach might get lured away.

1982 - three draws in the group, went on to win the tournament.

Just sent Herr Laws this email...interesting to see if he responds.

Hello Mr Laws.

Care to rethink the bold bits perhaps?

Cheers

We are like Estonia or Paraguay at the Rugby World Cup. We play the role of the thrash minnows.

we are now up against the only other team in the group who have played at or above their expectations - so let's face it, we're gonna get thrashed.  we'll be lucky to even touch the ball once.

we have never scored a goal at any world cup finals match against a team who doesn't wear a blue shirt, so there is absolutely no chance we can score in this game.

draws against UEFA teams?  we did it in Wales with a second string team (not to mention relatively recent draws with Scotland and Estonia and the Georgia win), so no big deal or surprise that we've done it twice in SA.  But south american oppostion?  not done previously, so can't happen now - no chance

Okay, whoever put that $200 bet on the AWs winning the World Cup, now is a good time to announce yourself.  We need to collectively rub your head as a lucky charm via the internet!!!

i think Stack is the legend for his $120 bet on us to not win!  i am thinking of putting on some similar bet for this game, or maybe seeing if there are good odds on Paraguay by a 2 goal or more margin for some happiness insurance. (if we lost by 1 goal i'd be disappointed but far from gutted).

for the record, i think superstition is a load of rubbish....but in cases like this it becomes my religion, i've been in the same pub for the wellington Bahrain game, and our two group games, so not much chance of me not going back for this one! - i'm also responsible for our qualification by committing to something which pretty much ruled out my being able to go to SA for the world cup and thus appeasing the jinx gods.

anyway, in keeping with the thread - this is the end of the road for us, we are going to get thashed North Korea style.

Too true!! Probably closer to the score of the Aussie v American Samoa qualifier a couple of years back, 31-0

Our boys will be crying by the end of the match for their mummies. This is going to be a spanking (not the good kind)

No, seriously - the pressure will get to the lads. Fallon sent off. 3-0 drubbing. Chris Rattue and Michael LOLS will be gloating on the weekend.

3 draws, a win against serbia. No idea how the fifa rankings works, but clearly we should move up a bit in the rankings..
