I was watching the highlights of this and the bahrain game as i was feeling tired and stressed. nothing makes you feel better. imagine if woods' strike against Italy or Paraguay went in instead of just going wide??? some of us would still be partying...

Used his engine to beat Cannavaro then curled his shot just wide of post instead of just inside. Big shame. Adrenalin? He (and we) would have gone down in history, like those bizarre Nth Koreans who beat Italy in '66.

I think that goal against Slovakia was better. I remember burning my hand on cigarettes during the celebration. Was insane. All 10 of us kiwi supporters packed into a bar in japan. Was great

Sadly I couldn't travel home for the game. Lived in country so watched the goal alone.. Maybe took some of it away

Reid's. First point at a WC. Last minutes make it more special. And being there to witness it.
Smeltz's vs Italy was pretty close to the other two I reckon. After snatching a last minute equalizer against Slovakia I was certain our WC had peaked and Italy and Paraguay would romp past us, so when we took an earlier lead it ws so unexpected and it felt like a fairytale in the making!

Three points for a win (from 1994)
Three (rather than two) points for a win were introduced into the English Football League in 1981 in a bid to encourage more attacking play.
It gradually made its way into most other major leagues over the next decade and a half, but was not adopted at a World Cup until 1994, after negative tactics marred the 1990 tournament.
What happened next? It made no difference in 1994, 2002 or 2006, when the same teams would have qualified from the group stage under two points for a win.
However, in 1998, Paraguay would have finished top of Group D ahead of Nigeria, which would have given them different opposition in the second round, when both teams bowed out.
In 2010, New Zealand - undefeated after drawing all three group games - would have qualified for the second round in place of Slovakia, who lost to the Netherlands in round two.
