There is little communication between clubs at the Youth Level in the Waikato. They're competing for players, and with four clubs now playing in the Auckland Comp from u14 up, this has only grown stronger. 

Melville and Cambridge are definately the strongest currently. Wanderers and Northern United a step down.

Lots of the younger players will trial across teams at all clubs and then go from there depending what is on offer. Cambridge offers a variety of overseas tournaments and the CHCH Cup, and Northern does the Vegas Comp etc which is bringing players in. Melville and to my knowledge don't offer the above, which potentially will cost them long term as the above is a point of difference.

Whats the cost of these programmes and offerings across the regions? I feel there is definitely kids getting priced out of these academy's etc therefore not getting developed and missed altogether. CIC tournaments and the like, aren't about the best players playing. It about who can afford to play...

Assuming we lost as Nix academy page  didn't post a score. Our women also had heavy defeats.  Pretty disappointing.

I've seen enough, get them all first team contracts! 🤣

I have no details on the goalscorer apart from that it was a backpost header to settle it.

F/T and it finishes 2-1 to Wellington, who came back from 1-0 down at H/T thanks to a long range strike from outside the box and a late free kick.

Open game and plenty of chances for both sides - some gilt edged ones at that. Good hit out for both.

Phoenix U17's the only Wellington side with a winning record against Auckland - 3 wins, 1 draw and 0 losses now.

I watched the game on mute due to the wind getting up and distorting the sound coming out of the tv sound bar. Prior to that I thought there was a lot of chat out of the Auckland bench after they went up 1-0 early. 

Can only imagine that chatter had dried up by the end? 

Fwiw - Auckland were the better of the two in 1st half (also with a goal ruled out for offside) and Wellington were the better in the 2nd. Unsure if wind played a factor overall as I don't think it was blowing that bad either. Well, by Wellington standards anyway. 🤷‍♂️

Changes from game 1 with Cruz Pietersen and Willem Des Tombe to start.

Lost 0:2. An awful pass to nowhere and Myanmar got the ball, in from the side, 2nd goal. A lot to improve on. Attack,  1 goal canceled for offside, other than that, 1 from outside the box saved, nothing else.

This is a good lesson for them playing at international level. The last goal conceded was lazy. However these japanese level tournaments will help them progress. A great idea from nz football.

Has Martin Bullock ever done anything to deserve to stay employed by NZF?

His teams always play absolute dross. At every age level at every tournament.

0-0 at H/T - Which was where I watched up to. A broadly competitive first 45, with not too much created either way. 

The Japanese players looked class though, always looking to get the ball forward, and even in tight spaces, were always ready to receive the ball (especially in those midfield areas) on the half turn, so they can just spin and go, or beat the NZ boys at will. On the other hand when we would get forward we'd often be stuck for numbers and recycle it back to midfield where we'd ultimately lose it. 

I don't like to be too hard on these kids either, but it was pretty terrible build up play from the back too. Goalkeeper to defenders, pass it around 3-4 times, invite the pressure, end up inviting too much pressure and then hoof it up field - Might as well just go long!? If not, at least mix it up instead of pissing around with it at the back all the time...

Glad I didn't watch that second half.

Does Martin Bullock know how to play another way? You watch a lot of footy like me. It's always the same dross. Or am I wrong?

I don't rate Martin as a coach either. For years, whenever he puts an NZ team against half decent opposition they lose, not even draw, and often by multiple goals. I'd like a new coach now.

Does Martin Bullock know how to play another way? You watch a lot of footy like me. It's always the same dross. Or am I wrong?
In my completely unqualified opinion is that he does not. 

Seems to be the standard 4-2-3-1 formation in operation these days with little intent on pressing from the front to put pressure on the opponents, so these very good footballing nations at every level will just pick you apart at will by finding space in between the lines and leaping into wave after wave of attacks. 

I lost count in the first half of how many splitting passes were made that took 2-3 of the Kiwi lads right out of play. It's nice to watch, but not so much from a Kiwi point of view.

For mine he needs at least one victory at the U17 World Cup in a few months. Some promising signs last time out against tough opponents, but still zero wins in the last two editions despite breezing through qualifying. 

By all accounts he seems to have a good crop of young lads at his disposal this time around, but we need to actually start progressing in some of these tournaments, not just turn up to them...
