Half time Wrap

Japan awesome, NZ pretty woeful.

No one in NZ really looking up to standard - something needs to be done at HT to change things up or this could become even more embarrassing. LB has been torn apart and Tuiloma also has been caught on the overlap as well.

Midfield pretty non existant - yet we have 5 there which makes no sense and Payne just gets nothing decent to work off.

Edge the only one who looks half decent - even our CB's who have been so good this tourney look all at sea with weak passing putting us under pressure or no direction on the long balls.

A very poor performance.

Such a shame to end what has been a good tournament to date with a performance like we got in the first half - need a second half of gold to restore some pride.

Not to pin the blame on anyone in particular, but how sh*t is Kip Colvey? All four goals are his fault.

To be fair, I wonder if any team at this tournament has played a better 45 minutes of football than Japan just did?
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Harsh. Howieson and Raniga played 3 games in their positions. Hard ask for Colvey, first up against Japan.

Colvey has looked out of his depth but to be fair none of the team could say they have had a good game.

Big 2nd half lads, cmon pride in the shirt and all that good stuff...

Actually we have let them play good football, we have given them so much space and time on the ball.

Poor tactics from us we are defending to deep and the midfield is to close to the defence giving Japan way to much space. It doesn't help that the leftback and the left half are having poor games as well.

I reckon our midfield is a bit in no mans land. Japan is still finding a lot of space between the lines so either we do an Inter and have midfield and defensive lines very close together and reduce that space or to press them extremely intensively.

Yeah, but even if we'd closed them down they still be well ahead. They were as good as we were bad.

You are right.

Of those 2 options I think the later is the way we should be playing, defend higher up the pitch. The midfield needs to move forward another 10 metres in front of the defence to deny the Japan the midfield space.

I have never stopped watching a nz team before the end of a game... i am struggling here!!

5-0

some serious organisational coaching problems at FB
they are just not watching for and marking the runs outside and in behind them
easy meat

Little painful to watch, purely just because the confidence has understandably vanished and its making all the simple things nz have done in the previous games, look really difficult now

I must say Japan are a little dirty, little niggly pushes and kicks.

They are stronger than us on the ball which must leave questions about our fitness training.
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Japan are always the fittest team at any tournament, its one of their great strengths. The area they traditionally fall short in is a little quality up front and maybe strength.

I fully expect Japan to become a top 10 footballing nation in the near future. Lots of money, good set up and coaches.

Watch out!!

Your not wrong, they are always fit but these guys are also a lot stronger than our players which is a worry as our guys are mostly bigger than them.

I read that as "at least we forced a decent save from the keeper"

5-0 down and our coach moves the striker back into midfield, what is the reasoning behind that?

Is there a NZ team that doesn't rely on long bombs as plan A?

nooooo ....... I blame Rikki!

Our defence has been poor all game, we are not tracking the man or defending on the right side of the player.

converted try will win it!

if a FB does go wide on a runner the rest are not adjusting
heads and legs must be blown
did well to get here, but that lame draw with the US didn't do them any good to prepare for this
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Its easy to blame the defence for a 6-0 loss, but if every time you clear the ball it just comes straight back and you are defending for 60 minutes of the 90 it makes life very tough.

Wahoo, we forced a save.

Its no longer a problem.
