School holidays from the 26th  Sept to Oct 13th.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

1) There will be more camps

2) To be eligible for the world cup, players must be U17 at 1 Jan 2015. Thus anyone older than this won't be picked for the camps.

Won't they play in the ASB Youth League? I understand the NYL is starting earlier this year, maybe so it can be finished before the qualifiers in January?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

but what's the point in Ntc when nz coach will be at camp?

Permalink Permalink

There are a few boys that are involved with Nike Cup that weren't at the camp but I'd expect they would come in later. There will be more camps to pick the squad! You better start training really hard Global Footy.

Aimed at a different level. U17 is the best in the nation. NTC is best of the regions.

Not strictly true.

NTC is actually only the best of the FTC players (Federation Talent Centre).

Unless you attend an FTC, you are not eligible to attend an NTC - no matter how good a player you are.

There are plenty of talented young players working outside the NTC system because they either choose not to attend NTC or are unable to attend as they do not attend an FTC programme.

Clearly a disconnect in the NZF pathway that they are aware of but either unable or reluctant to address.

Yeah. Thought it was an uncessary complication to bring into the discussion with Global Footy.

Impasse is my guess. Yet coaches generally want/find best players wherever they may be and whatever the football politics. Example: some Nix academy players did attend NTC u17camp, but not FTC. (More football politics but that's beside the point).

How many WYNRS or Ole boys were in that pic though? Or more importantly, not in that pic? There are a few decent 98/99 players at those 2 academies alone; still to come into the mix. No doubt there are others. And iirc a kiwi living in Aussie was a late entry last cycle round. Agathos?

players need to put themselves into the position to be seen! within the pathway this is FTC and NTC weather they like it or not. WYNRS/Onehunga Sport didn't nominate any players from a certain age groups and now a parent wants into FTC but the child can not attend because the club didn't nominate him!! Clearly some own motives from WYNRS there to me. Anyway look at last u17 team handful of wynrs boys in so at the end of the day if they are good enough then they will be seen. Just have to be in right place at the right time!

But wouldn't it be nice if everyone sung of the same sheet.

There is no one "pathway". Sooner NZF gets their head around this the better.

There needs to be only 1 pathway or why would parents pay to be involved in FTC/NTC when clearly the better developmental pathways are provided by external providers.

Fred DJ has a big call to make, which needs to be made. No Academy is bigger than the game.

To clarify, when I said there is no single pathway, I meant .. to becoming a professional footballer.

Not 100% sure what you mean Jose - are you saying NZF should select from ANY academy (NZF or private)? This is the current situation for national youth teams,  is it not?
