Only one South Islander in the squad - McGarry -  and he lives in Wellington.

13 Aucklanders (I include the Sunderland youth goalie Woud who moved there from Auckland in August)

Six from Wellington clubs (Western Suburbs and Phoenix)

One or two of South Island origin like Stroud (who now plays in Wellington) were in the mix earlier in the year.

Seems strange that no players living in the South Island are deemed good enough to make a twenty man squad.

Michael Woud: 1.96 metres at age 16 (same height as me = 6' 5")

Like me, has Dutch ancestry, which explains the height:

Makes him the tallest goalie in NZ rep teams for a long time. Must be one of our tallest ever.

NZ has never had a lot of tall national goalies.

Hunter Ashworth: another 1.96 m player (centreback)

A new name to me. Just looked him up.

Dual NZ/US citizenship.

Has been playing For Pateadores SC in the South West Division of the US Soccer Development Academy league which includes some MLS youth sides (third place this year behind Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy u-18's)
