About the Japanese players
Although registered as a MF, it was recently announced that No.13 Yoshinaga, will play for Genk, part of Belgium from next season.
Four of the players selected this time, including Yoshinaga plays only high school football.
Scouts' favourite No. 14, Nawada is one of them.
None of the players have played abroad so far, and 17 are from J-League Academy clubs.

Other teams like Japan will likely have all their players based at home though. NZ have a sprinkling of players like Coveny, Argent brothers (Perth), Dupont (West Brom), Watson & Leuluai based overseas. Is one of them carrying a niggle that the U17 team medical staff need clarity on? Luke Supyk obviously is.

Or is there a last minute eligibility issue that needs sorting out? It wouldn't surprise.

This U17 WC in Indonesia is for us basically in our backyard for once. Shortish travel journey. The team also go in with some reasonable prep from that 3 game tourney few mths ago in Japan. All the NZ based players are likely training together in Albany. But yeah you'd hope there are 2 friendlies lined up in Indo next week, before the first game against Venezuela 12th Nov (2 weeks away).
