Decent Squad!

Saw that Waitemata Keeper play, He is very good. Be a good asset for us.

No Dylan Burns? or Connor Probert?

I know some professionals are missing for obvious reasons, but apart from Henry Cameron, who else could make the cut for U-20s?

6 players from Western Springs... pretty much the backline. I hope they have been having a good season!

Teams always change after qualifying, so it will be interesting how many lose their spots to Cameron etc if we make the finals.

Sorted. In. You will be a happy man.

Glad the team is out. Great to pick over the bones. Forumsters are correct with the make up of the team. It will probably change, as the under 17s did last year after they qualified.

A couple of talking points as others have mentioned. Probert in the states but other players seem to be coming back?

Dylan Burns - would have been nice to finally see him play. The experts must know he's not up to it?

No room for Billingsley?

Only 5 midfielders - not going to be any injuries or form slumps then. Whewww.

can someone on here tell me if any of those defenders are actually def midfielders in disguise. Tuiloma stood out at the last tournament with his pure physicality and calmness. I just don't see any real athletic strong players in this team. None of the young Nix players fit that bill.

Incidentally this seems to be an issue across most men's teams - we are producing loads of backs, wingers but few athletic ball winners who can dominate the midfield and distribute. Give me a Pogba any day!

Would love to be wrong on this one with this side as can see a few creative players in there.

My understanding as part of the criteria for selection is that the players must be playing ASB Premiership weekly..minimum as producing performances.

Where are the Western Springs boys playing their Summer footballs?

Billingsly is an interesting ommission. Although personally, I did not rate him that highly, but for been a fast mans Peter Crouch I didn't see anything technically or positionally brilliant about him.

In 2013, I went to Napier with Reese Cox for Glenfield Rovers, and our coach Michael Mayne played Reese Cox in a defensive midfield role. He can play there.

Alignment - don't need any midfielders if these guys are gonna play like the senior side.  Only midfield requirement is a strong neck.

Yes. He didn't have a brilliant U20 world cup last year - maybe an assist and 1 goal? But he does have experience at U20 level and that must count for something in a Youth environment?

Great to see Myer Bevan getting a run - be interesting to see if he can unlock other countries defenses like he has done at the Nike Academy.

I thought Billingsley had a pretty good WC last year - he got slagged on the YF forum a lot, but to me he was quite quick, direct, and caused the defenders some problems. Our build up play was fairly slow which doesn't help a player of those qualities.

No Luca Scimia - be interesting to know if he felt it wasn't worth his time, or NZF said "we'll get you onboard when we qualify".....or if no contact has been made

Joseph Champness at Brisbane Roar Youth

Tom Walters, but he is playing in Gibraltar.....would Gibraltar be equivalent of NZFC? Possibly?

and that kid at West Ham.....Tiller?

A goal and an assist is a good return for a Kiwi striker in a youth world cup! We've had international strikers go years without a goal or an assist!

How do you guys reckon we'll fair with this squad? All wins? A couple of draws/games won on penalties?

Also I'm no expert on the U20s, so are there any big names/prospects that have been left out that quite a few of us might not be aware of/forgotten?

I would love to see Hay get questioned about his selections with the names of missing players etc... especially about whether or not favourtism is being shown, especially if Springs is near relegation and the teams above him are playing young eligable players as well.

Nothing will come of it, but I do wish we challenged selections more in NZ to help keep coaches honest.

?

A number of the starters who played all the 17s games in Chile have been omitted, with a number of the players who came on as reserves or played smaller parts included, These include Sapreet Singh and Joe Bell and Luke Johnson. Those who played most games include Liam Williams and Ben Mata who played at the back, and Dane Schnell who played the defensive midfield role .Both backup keepers to Michael Woud chose not to be involved in the 20s build up.

Other than that, some of the players overseas at American Universities who were in the training squad prior to leaving, such as Oscar Ramsay and Connor Probert are omitted too as is Jake Porter from Onehunga and of course Dylan Burns.

Should be able to make the final, and two teams qualify so easier this time round perhaps?

Should be directing the questions to Bazeley, who is the coach. Hay does the 17s

Would like to know where those selected come from - are any of the Auckland-based players from around the country, are any of those at the Phoenix (Joe Bell is ex-Christchurch)?

One thing I find interesting is, anyone remember the training camp that was held before the Nations Cup??

I seem to remember majority were U-20 and apparently some were overseas.

Players who I seem to remember people were talking about were U-20 (Correct me if I am wrong):

Jack Anderson - ?

Joe Bell - Wellington Phoenix

Myer Bevan - Nike Academy

Jackson Brady -?

Cam Brown - Waitemata

Reese Cox - Western Springs

George Debenham - Western Springs

Moses Dyer - Onehung Sports

Andres Greensmith - ?

Patrick Izzet - Vancouver Whitecaps? - Not sure

Clayon Lewis - Onehunga Sports

Cheuxyan Makau - ?

Daivd Masters - Glenfield Rovers/Manurewa - He trains with rovers on Tuesday and trains with Manurewa on thursday. Plays for Manurewa on weekend (Like a loan deal)

Jake Porter - ?

Connor Probert - Not sure if true but read somewhere he is in USA

Oscar Ramsey - Western Springs

Logan Rogerson - Phoenix

Charlie Thomas - Western Springs

Connor Tracey - Heard he was at QPR then he came back

Mitch Watt - Not sure where he is, but don't think he is overseas

Who out of this players, currently play overseas? They might be a few who missed out just like Henry Cameron (For obvious reasons).

Nando can play left mid. Saw him play half a game there for wests vs Napier city and thought he provided really good width and was able to cross some decent balls into the box. So a midfield and left back option.

Watched Springs lose to bottom ranked Melville tonight . Hope the 5 players who are going off with the 20s were scared of getting injured and did not play true to form, because Darren Bazley watching would have been worried seeing how 1/3 of his outfield squad performed.

I wondered why he left Onehunga v FHM early, I think he might have missed Moses' superb match-winner that sealed it for Sports after they'd let a 3-1 lead slip and looked to heading for a 3-3 draw.

The Springs players may be work horses for the Island conditions. Then once U20s grab a qualifying spot. The personel may change? All is not lost. If Bazley thinks he has picked the wrong players. He still has time to bring in others, should we qualify.
