Surprised that likes of Woud, McGarry and Lewis have been picked. These Olyroos games from memory fall in a FIFA window (games Sept 6th & Sept 9th), when for Woud & McGarry - Willem II will be inactive. However the later Olympic qualifying tourney in Fiji falls outside of a FIFA window.

What's the point of bringing them down under, if their club is unlikely to later release them for the Olympic qualifying tourney.

Even more surprised Scun-thorpe have agreed to release Lewis. They have a League Two game Sept 8th. League Two doesn't stop for windows. Lewis is also still on the injured list.

I think El Grap pointed out clubs don't need to release players for international U23 football, even in FIFA windows.

So some of the domestic guys who went to Samoa, get dropped for these plum Olyroos games, but then likely get invited back in again to go to Fiji. If that happens not sure how they may feel? 'You have little chance of being at the Olympics, when all our first choice, plus 3 over U23 players will be available, but we just need you for a couple of unfashionable tourneys in the Islands before we discard you again!'.

I guess the other narrative is, a chance to stand out, and make a name for oneself.
