Thank you our Canadian correspondent. So like NZ, sounds as if the US Olympics squad will definitely be an upgrade from their U20s. Still I think we have a better chance of getting something off them in Paris, compared to the 4-0 whipping at the U20 WC in Argentina last year.

3 O/A players from Wood, Singh, Libby, Payne etc will add some steel & experience for starters. But likely the AFC/CAF team will be a must win game, and minimum draw needed against the USA, to progress to quarters. France will just be too tough at home, and with their quality - they will have their very best available you'd think.

Realistically the Olywhites will be longshots to get out of their pool this time. Tokyo with South Korea , Romania & Honduras was definitely easier. With us 2nd in the pool to the Koreans.

And yes that CONCACAF tourney sounds OFC level basketcase organisation. See that the the only points & only goals the champion Americans conceded in 7 games was a 2-2 draw with Canada (same pool). So rough for the Canadians to see Dominicia get a soft draw, and get to the final (lost to 6-0 to USA) but lock in an Olympics spot.

I imagine a bit like the Islands verus NZ, the smaller Latino countries in CONCACAF do their damnest to rig these tourney formats against big boy gringo nations US & Canada.
