This Hay bashing is a little over the top... more to do with Buckingham not having the job than anything probably.

We beat S. Korea... a pre tournament favourite and should have beaten Hondorus. We clearly have not been that bad, nor that defensive.

Comparing u20 and u24 levels is silly. Players are completely different (in personal generally with NZ being the exception because of our small player pool) to the fact that they have had 4 more years to develop. And unlike us (NZ) in the hardened European environment, not NZ/Aus.

Have an opinion, but don't be Trumpish (say something enough times loud enough you actually begin to believe the lie). Not saying your liars, but that you have some big blinkers on.
Don't you like Donald?

Not a bad start. Just need to hold the ball a little better and move for each other

2-0 after 20 mins SK over Hondorus. 0-0 draw would be enough if that holds.

Good to see that we're playing the possession-based football that we're renowned for.

Service to wood hasn't been good all tourn, not many he's had a chance to get his head on.

Dare I say it.... we are playing some lovely football. Perhaps final execution is the only thing that has let us down thus far.

Bell lokks more comfortable as the anchoring 6.
Stamenic looking lively and confident
Champness with some great flair
Pijnaker solid and great at progressive left foot passes

Come on!!!

I would argue it makes it even more baffling that we set up the way we did v Honduras, but yes, this is very positive.

This is the best half we’ve played at the olympics and this is the worst ref’ing I’ve seen at the olympics.

How does it work that if Korea wins we can advance?

Wouldn't that make them W W L and us W D L?  Surely they advance.

I'm pleasently surprised with the good football Danny has the lads playing. I can now see why he may not have wanted to do this first two games, our back line just looks shakey under any/little pressure. I would sub our carded players off at the half. Not worth the risk.

Anyone got another stream? This one keeps freezing. Wonder if TVNZ will switch to the football after the rugby lose to Fiji or we’ll be second to a cut down variant medal ceremony.

Nerve wracking at 0-0.
Really hope we get the goal we deserve to get a bit of a buffer.

Best thing about footy is the bipolar threads about coaching.

Elliot, after stuff all minutes in the last twelve months, is hopefully putting an end to Inghams prior preference as RWB. He's much more solid, effortless.

I think one of Garbett or Stamenic needs to drop in centrally a little more to give Bell an option thats not always lateral - at least they will drag one of their CBs/CDMs out of shape.

Would like to see us mix it up more this half with ealry balls into the pockets behind thier wingbacks for Champness with an early cross.

Lets see what the plan is from Hay - but by dropping lewis, Ingham and Mccowatt he's at least been watching the same games we have...

I thought Champs did ok... some poor passing options, but offered a good pacy outlet.

the other games on at the moment are nuts.  Côte d'Ivoire are on track to knock out Germany and the Saudi's are drawing with Brazil.

It might just be that we're really good but I'm shocked at how passive Romania have come out. Surely they knew they need a win and if not it must've been very clear at HT?!

Permalink Permalink

Romania passive - what about us - we seem to have given up any attacking intent and trying to park the bus.
