Its all gone quiet for Pelter at Sunderland. Thats probably not a good sign for him. Have to wait and see. I don't know if he is still trialing there.

If we build it, they will come...

Though I have noticed that when he commented about Chopra's goal in weekend he said.
"I don't care if they come from Newcastle or New Zealand"

So i guess NZ maybe stil on his mind.

I spoke to the chairman of his club (Woolston Tech in Ch-Ch) on Saturday and he said he's been offered a one year deal by Sunderland

That would be great if it is correct Dougie. I wonder when they will announce it?

He would become only the fifth Kiwi to play in the English topflight behind trailblazer Lee Osgood (Ipswich Town), Danny Hay (Leeds United), Ryan Nelsen (Blackburn) and Simon Elliott (Fulham).

It's Lee Norfolk FFS, how hard is it to check some basic facts ?

It's ridiculous how bad the media can get basic facts wrong with their football reporting. The herald  had an article the other day that mentioned Brazils Ranaldo with a picture of Man U's Cristiano Ronaldo...

If true about Pelter signing it is great news, however it strikes me as odd that until the last game he wasn't in the starting line up for the u20's? Surely that means either the u20 management underrated him or that keane has overrated him.

Just heard the news on radio sport. All the best to him. I think congratulations are in order.

Well done Pelter. Do you think he will get any game time for the top team?

Brilliant...I think it will take him some time to get game time in the first team. He will need to work his way onto the sub bench and then take his chances.

It is just great to have another kiwi in a top football environment.

This is the best situation NZ footballers have ever been in overall.

Good luck to the guy...I hope he is successful. It is good that there are Kiwis getting a chance with decent clubs. At the least it will be a good experience for him.

He played again for the reserves against Durham City.  I will try and find the match report.  The reserves won 4-1.

Can anyone concieve of them gettign junior all-black's photos mixed up? Prob not. . .  just goes to show that the media are still playing catch-up with respect to football. .. .  still, at least they appear to be making an effort, they just need to be a bit better educated.

From the following website (there is also an article on Tibal Football, which mentions an ankle injury picked up with the U20's)

http://www.1sunderland.com/news/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1770&Itemid=1
Monday, 20 August 2007 Jack Pelter's move to Sunderland has been held up, after the defender injured his ankle in a reserve team game.

Pelter had agreed terms on a one-year contract on Wearside, but his father, Jeff, told a newspaper in New Zealand that the move had been held up because Sunderland's insurers wouldn't let us sign him until his injury had healed. Pelter (senior) revealed that his son had injured his ankle in the reserves' 4-1 friendly win over Durham last week, and said that "there was no way he was coming off in that match."

Pelter is expected to need a few weeks to recover from the injury, before the 20 year old finally puts pen to paper on his Sunderland contract - which should hopefully be done before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

You might have got 2 right, maybe 3 if Pelter does sign but definitley wrong about James, hes trialling at Leyton Orient in the 1st Division.

He's still officially on Fulham's books but wants first team football.  Many Fulham fans are annoyed he's never had the chance there.

HN, what happened at the U20s, would that not have been a big enough stage for him?

I thought the transfer window closed at the end of August? He better hurry up and get signed. Chris James at Leyton Orient would be better than sitting at Fulhams reserves.

Hey there's nothing wrong with the mighty O's mate.

Three for me, and two for them.

I know it, I've been a fan since 1978.
I've since found out that Chris James played for our reserves in a 0-1 loss to Charlton about a week ago. Orient will not be offering him a contract.

Great ground, spent the 88/89 season following the O's, being from a small NZ town never really enjoyed the big crowds at the larger clubs.

Was caught up in a couple of nasty situations when following Pompey the season before. Three hours after the Chelsea game had finished we were police escorted to the train station. Was involved in a crush at Arsenal pre Hillsborough.

Great atmosphere, close to the ground and the regulars were welcoming of a newcomer only drawback was the teams colours.

Sorry to be the pedant, but the call is actually
"Play up Pompey"

not, as you've said, Play on Pompey.
