I think he should stop them too... to ram the disjointedness of NZFs organisation home.

My original point about the club games being a waste of time is coming true.  A Game near Mexico city is great but not with a squad of players miles away from our strongest XI.  Really whats the point.  Just fly the team to the West Indies and don't bother with the dead wood (Scott, Christie, Bright, Butler, Peverley etc)

So based on what's been said about players so far we can assume

Team v Club games

Glen Moss, Tamati Williams

Aaron Scott, Bill Tuiloma, Andrew Durante, Michael Fitzgerald, Tony Lochhead, Ian Hogg (Sigmund for the camp if not the team??)

Leo Bertos, Cole Peverley, Jeremy Christie, Jake Butler, Aaron Clapham, Cameron Howieson, Craig Henderson

Kris Bright, Jeremy Brockie & Rory Fallon

T & T: Winston Reid, Tommy Smith, Michael McGlinchey & Kosta Barbarouses

Poss injured: Chris James, Ivan Vicelich

Injured: Chris Wood, Chris Killen, Shane Smeltz, Marco Rojas & Tim Payne

I think that there's a lot of negativity going around now. Sure the Solomons Islands experience was terrible, and we lost the confeds cup and other opportunities, but most of our good games were actually after we qualified for the last WC- Mexico, Slovenia, Serbia etc etc

It's still good to have a camp and get some of the team together, and do the best we can from here on in.

OK things are messed up, but it's something and we should give our support to the team.

We are always fighting against injuries, short international windows where we have to jet out and in, clubs in Europe who won't release players (how often did Nelsen actually play for us?), and the odd player who thinks he could do it better (until he gets into NZF). Sure you would hope none of Peverly, Christie or Butler would be first choice or even second choice, but the way injuries are going they might be.

We miss Smeltz big time. The spine of Nelsen, Elliot, Smeltz was one of quality.

Time to get the WC challenge spirit going and save the whatifs for if they are needed...

I totally agree with you, let's get behind this team, whoever is going! Good luck to all the guys all of whom will give 101% each time they take the field.

Permalink Permalink

we don't even know who's in this team, so it's hard to get behind them

but i get your point guys

don't they fly out tomorrow?

i'm hoping that everyone who's in the squad knows about it

just to be safe, i think that some of us should make the journey over to boost the playing numbers

i'm 40, maori and large.  so i reckon no one will notice if i come on for plodder with 20 minutes to go

I wonder in the last 40 years in New Zealand if any national football, rugby, league, netball, or cricket team have ever climbed on an aircraft to represent their country,, without a team being announced to the general public? I can't think of it happening in my life time. Shame on you NZ football.

It's this kind of crap that stopped half our guys playing for the aws for five years. This is amateurish stuff, get through these matches supporting the team sure, but heads must roll after this. This cannot be good enough

From FDJ on Radio Sport

Squad will be 22. Team named before 7. Any games before T&T still unconfirmed. Looks like Kosta/Weemac will be in camp.

He remains unforgiven though. Should've secured INTERNATIONAL opposition in LA prior to traveling to T & T

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Well the Fitzgerald absence is bizarre considering some of the quality of the players in that squad. Something bad has happened therep>

Far out Fallon, Pevs and Christie should be nowhere near this squad!

Happy to see Bill Tuiloma there though. Finally some right backs!

Jesus..... I bet they were waiting until the plane doors had shut to confirm who was going looking at that lot.

So many players missing...... Smeltz, Rojas, Killen, Wood, James, Payne, Sigmund. You can make a reasonable case that a few of them are away leg players....

Kinda knew he was injured but you could make a case (based on opinion) that he may feature in the away leg...

Fred de Jong said in the paper yesterday that the key was the "squad spending time together on this trip" (or words to that effect).

Pretty hard to fly that argument when it's a squad full of ring ins.

That's what I don't understand. So many of these guys won't be there come November. So why include them now? If they do feature in November, then what the flip are we doing only bringing them into the squad now.
