I think Vicelich is too slow these days to play at  the back in meaningful internationals. Durante maybe could do it, but not as effectively as Nelsen did and not as effectively as he could play as a regular CB. I'd rather have makeshift fullbacks in a back 4 than a makeshift sweeper in a back 5, because at least most players are used to playing in a formation with 4 defenders to start with.

Yep have to agree Vicelich is a bit long in the tooth. I do wonder why we've gone with an older Australian who has thrown his hat in with NZ obviously because he didn't think he'd get a call from the socceroos. Nothing against Durante but aren't there any young kiwis we could give a chance to? What happened to Cole Peverley - wasn't he right up there at one stage in Germany? What about that lad Darren White - wasn't he playing overseas for years?

Some people have mentioned in other parts of this forum that Fitzgerald hadn't been playing for his J2 side, then his J1 side take him back and he starts playing - shows that maybe if we give one of our younger players a chance they might do the job for us. Need to try and blood young players in when we can, not keep using the old soldiers!

Darren White is a winger playing Northern 1... Challenging stuff.

Peverly has talent but prone to brain exlosions. You don't want that in and international game. Lower levels do not punish those mistakes as much

I suspect the reason why Dura is being looked at for that DM role is that Ricki views Durante and Ivan as similar players. What position does Ivan currently play? Bet he thinks that if Ivan can do it, Dura can too.
