Nix obviously didn't make any headway getting a women's team in the comp this year. Domey mentioned on the YF pod that they were keen. Would even up the number of teams. More opportunities etc.
I'm sure there is a lot of big picture stuff I don'y know about as to why it didn't happen this year. Hopefully NZF can plan for it next year and we can have a team in the W-League the year after.
Dome alluded to the fact there were a few frustrations with NZF about this, with Weenix even offering to cover all the costs, but still getting nowhere. Sounds like the other federations are also worried they will lose their best young players, with fear many will choose to relocate to Wellington.
Of course all a bit short sighted, re the greater good of women's football. Dome stated Weenix first need to get a team into the national league, before they can setup a W League team - which would be a huge benefit to women's football in NZ. Hopefully they can find a solution, that keeps everyone reasonably happy.
