Congrats to ACFC. Amazig success!

I don't want to underestimate ACFC's result, but I still refuse to believe how bad were Moroccans.

I may or may not have slept through the first half but either way in the second half the commentator was almost constantly talking about how good ACFC's center halve was (Dodovic or something similar). Anybody else think he is good enough to possibly be a future Phoenix CB or not?

Marko Djordjevic from Serbia: has a good pedigree - Serbian top flight 2001-2010 (Napredak, Jagodina) which is a pretty decent league; Kazakhstan Premier League 2011-13.

Currently on loan to Auckland from Serbian SuperLiga side Radnicki Kragujevac.

Aged 31 so still a few seasons left in him.

I thought him, Berlanga and Takuya Iwata were the only Auckland players (apart from Vicelich) who looked capable of stepping up to the A-League.

It was a huge achievement though for Auckland to dump out the fully professional Moroccan champions who, let's face it, come from a much better league than the ASB Premiership.

Marko Djordjevic scores in 2011-12 season Kazakhstan.

I'm finding it hard to criticise Auckland and the way they played.

Yes it was scratchy and the passing was shonky, but they kept a fully fledge professional side to only 1 shot of meaning in 120 minutes of football.

They also created the best chances and held there nerve.

ACFC - Better than the All Whites.

Hmm.

Interesting negative comment considering ACFC have, once again, achieved an exceptional result against both Uzbekistan and now the Moroccan champions.

Clean sheets (bar for penalties) against both too. Well played Tamati!

Funny innit. Once upon a time I would have been absolutely stoked by this ACFC result. Kiwis on the world stage, doin' it!

But you and your friends (or multis?) and your insistent trolling on here has gradually made me more and more apathetic about it all.

I suppose overall it's good for the game here because of the money and the exposure it brings.

Smithy, I just have to say this cuts both ways. I know I play the devil's advocate sometimes in defence of the ASBP and ACFC on this forum but that's usually in response to a constant drumbeat of erroneous and malicious digs at ACFC by some of your regulars.

I just wish more of those who go on this forum would turn out to watch Team Wellington. The O league is a tough competition now and TW will need it. The local national league desperately needs bums on seats.

I'm just basking in ACFC's glory in Morocco and looking forward to the game against the African champions E S Setif, so I won't be at Eden Park this weekend. I hope the Phoenix win but my heart is elsewhere. ACFC's performance may have been defensive but NZ football, in particular the ASBP, will benefit from the prize money, regardless of what the ACFC-haters here say.

We all know what's coming down the road. The Phoenix are increasingly going to become a nation-wide franchise because of insufficient support in Wellington (Dome has openly said this). That means three or possibly four games in Auckland and probably a rebranding as the NZ Phoenix and we'll get fewer at Kiwitea Street as a result. But hey, who knows, a couple of new franchises might rejuvenate the ASBP and at least ACFC have the O league and the CWC. There won't be another NZ A League franchise in Auckland because FFA don't see our low attendances/TV viewers as worth it.

The Phoenix and the ASBP are odd bedfellows because of the Asian/Oceania split but we just have to get used to it.

"Third crack at pro football team on cards in Auckland."

- see Steven Holloway in today's NZ Herald (with encouragement from Oz pundit Michael Cockerill "Oceania Football Confederation should look at being a partner, because they have so much to gain from it." ... and ACFC chairman Ivan Vuksich: "If there's a  possibility of another A-League team in Auckland we would definitely be keen to be involved. I have people working for me trying to find investors and the signs are reasonably encouraging.").

What can you do about it? Security guards might be given the responsibility of cracking down on it but its near impossible. Pretty sure the Moroccan authorities wouldn't have cared. Right now they are probably regretting the lack of lasers from the crowd !

Laser beams also happened for WSW v the Saudi team

Also, I would laugh quite heartily if ACFC ever make it into the A-League. Would Bluemagic and co top themselves?

Was much worse at the Club World Cup last year with more lasers trained on players.

I thought last year it was mostly from Chinese Guangzhou Evergrande supporters.

Maybe the Moroccans have picked it up from the Chinese.

I can't remember Moroccan (Raja Casablanca) supporters doing this last year against Auckland City.

Was an unfortunate feature of the All Whites game in China a couple of weeks ago too...

They had already committed to showing every game in the tournament before it started.

Just as well Sommet weren't the rights holders this year as they were last, considering they've just gone bust today and pulled the plug on their channel at midday - would have meant no further games in the tournament being shown:

PRESS RELEASE 12 December 2014 SOMMET SPORTS

As at 12.00pm today free-to-air sports channel Sommet Sports will cease transmission.
Launched 18th July 2013, Sommet Sports has delivered both live and pre-recorded sports on Freeview Channel 14, and Sky Channel 69. Funding initially understood to be available for the channel upon launch had largely never materialised and Sommet has been forced to attempt to deliver a full nationwide broadcast channel on one third of the finance.
“I am totally gutted at not being able to sustain something that we have long held a fervent desire to deliver to New Zealanders. Sommet was born from a dream to deliver free sports to all kiwis. Sadly this dream is not to be.” says Andrew Reeves, Director of Sommet Sports Ltd. “We have been blown away by the amazing support and consistently growing viewership that we gained in such a short time. We can only thank our loyal fans who have stayed with us until the end.”
“Being the ‘new kids on the block“, we also struggled to gain a strong foothold with most advertising agencies. This coupled with an acute funding shortage has left us with the sad reality of having to make the difficult call.”
“I would like to thank OMD, Spark, McDonalds, KFC and Fiat Chrysler group for their support and belief in our vision of delivering ‘Free Sports for Kiwis’ “

Exactly what trolling? I would estimate that 80% of my posts are pro ASBP and ACFC with the remaining 20% being a mixture of humour and perhaps a rare comment on the Phoenix.

Ask Geoff VadAr - He looked over my historic posts about a year ago and discovered that I generally don't needlessly slag the Phoenix but am actually passionately pro ASBP. I actually don't really give two tits about the Phoenix.
