Al ahli are doing a lot of probing but no great problems defending for AkCity.
AkCity starting to run out of steam.
Last 10 minutes, possession to Al Ahli.  Lots of crosses in.

Nearly 2-0. Still chances for Auckland.

Corner to Al Ahli.  Short, then wide, then over the post.
Down other end, crossed goal, Ak City couldn't get it down.
Ak City end, shot, spilled by Spoonley, picked up in time.
End to end stuff.

Yes, 2-0. Coombes.  Lovely long shot from right hand side, outside box.
He had to switch from Right back to attacking midfielder just before the match
23 min left
Jordan coming on.

Is there a pay out for winning into the quarter final?

The winners take away $5 million, second-placed team received $4 million, the third-placed team $2.5 million, the fourth-placed team $2 million, the fifth-placed team $1.5 million, the sixth-placed team $1 million and the seventh-placed team received $500,000, assuming it's the same as 2008.

Couple of corners for Al Ahli.  Another long shot.

Now I know why they went so hard for this match!  I thought we were playing that Egyptian side again so thought that it was all a bit pointless, this all starts to make sense

What is ridiculous (and makes this tournament ridiculous) is that a team from the UAE qualifies for the Club World Cup purely because they host it

All money for the game I guess, with this and the cash for supplying all whites to the world cup the nzfc might be able to stick around for a while longer

well there will be at least 2 teams in it.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

The tournament is seen by South Americans as the only chance to prove themselves against the strong european clubs.

Phew, Ullmann had to head it over his own net.
Out near the corner.
Our defence looks like a 4-2-3-1
Great save, tipped over net by Spoonley.
8 corners to 1 apparently, Al Ahli over AkCity.
10 mins left
Final substitution for Al Ahli on now.

Better that than going back to club national league where chairmen's eyes will light up and try to get Miramar Rangers or Central United to this tournament

But yes, that's all it's likely to do

I have a real thing against football in the Gulf so I'm glad ACFC are winning.  They have all of this money and influence yet fundamentally they are crap.  Crap players, crap teams, crap crap crap, all done with the most fantastic and professional preparation.  Then you have Bin Hamman, you have clubs in Saudi and Quatar paying players ridiculous amounts, Quatar bidding for a World Cup, you get them repatriating african players for more money.  Piss off

Williams to Jordan, straight down the middle, good shot saved.
Campbell on for Ullman who looks like he has cramp.

OK, not that Al Ahli are a team i had heard of before, but isn't this the club level equivalent of us making SA2010? (kind of sort of not really?)

wonder what the bookies were paying for Auckland to win that one?

another good result for football in NZ - sounds like a gutsy effort

nice $$ - might alter the landscape in NZ a bit

Excellent performance defensively, well done by Williams in midfield broke down a lot of attack again, Vicilich and Hogg did really well at the back also
09 Dec 18:34 · edited 09 Sep 05:45
A bit confused.

They were only guaranteed US$500,000 for going of which they only got $250,000 due to the cost splitting agreement with NZF and NZFC clubs. So because they have now beaten Al Alhi they get $1M which turns into $500,000 for them?

I thought it was $1M (then split) to begin with. Where did that figure all come from?

Grumpy old bastard alert
