Yes plenty of drama today at the football, and not all on the field. For me, as an avid observer and quiet person in the crowd, the fact that the referee, who tells his fourth official, to tell the Canty manager, to tell the crowd to stop cheering on their team was completely random. Yes it can be intense, but as long as it isn't offensive then play on for the fervent support.
But it was a good game with a good result.
Great having football to watch over the summer. I even chose it over the cricket today too.
The problem was down to one person, the notorious Alby, yelling out that the referee was a wanker - the kind of thing he often does.
If he's not careful he might find himself banned again for two years as he was a few years ago for calling former Ireland and Man City defender and Otago player-coach Terry Phelan (of African descent) a "monkey."
Alby is actually seriously nuts and is only funny occassionally when he's not plain tiresome...has been irritating players, officials etc. for decades. He was the same in the 1990's. Back then he would sometimes yell his support for the opposition and slag off the Canterbury players when he got bored. That was certainly a low point (along with the Terry Phelan incident a few years ago).
I understand the "Alby" (not be be confused with Graham Allen aka Alby - Mainland groundsman) is not in the best of health at the moment and as a result has not been seen at any Canty United games this summer.
