Central seems to be the only league with an interesting title race. Birko and Cashmere are probably just gonna run away with it
You obviously aren't familiar with Birko.
Jokes aside I don't want to jinx it but I mean a lot is gonna have to go wrong at this point for them to lose right? 8 point lead, unbeaten after 11 games and 9 points ahead of City who is probably the club to worry about the most. Anything could happen but this does seem like a promising season

Well. That's not ideal. It appears that some full replays now require a subscription?
e.g Upper Hutt v Nix now requires a subscription

NZF usually posts highlights on YT, wonder if that'll change now that replays are behind a paywall?

It looks like recent replays are behind a paywall - I am not happy. Replays from 2025 are free. I am assuming that live National League games are free - will find out tonight at 7pm.
Don't piss off old people - the older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent

Recent replays now open, so FIFA+ is actually free

Yeah they fixed that, wasn't the case last night. Please they have sorted it.
I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Out of curiousity what are peoples opinions on OPL players moving to the regional leagues? Just had this conversation elsewhere but wanted to ask here too.
My opinion was that I wasn't a fan of bringing professional players into these amatuer leagues, but at the same time I recognise that bringing these guy in raises the level of football locally - bringing in more skilled guys and giving others the chance to play against these skilled guys.
Curious what other people think though

Not really sure what the downside is tbh. OFC Pro League only offers them 4-5 months of football, and a lot of these guys were plucked from National League sides anyway. It has been pretty competitive in all the leagues without them so that might change a bit once the big boys start signing up all of their former players. I know a lot of the Central League top teams will have quite a few players coming in each. Overall, it raises the quality of the leagues, lets these guys play a bit more football and earn a bit more coin. Not sure what the OFC contracts would look like but I'd say once the Pro League season ends, they're not making money from it.

Don't have an issue with it to be honest.
It was always slated that a fair few of them would be going back to their winter clubs at the conclusion of the OPL anyway, and as it is a few of them have already picked up other moves too - Predominantly to the higher paying NPL.
It will be several years of this sort of situation for players coming out of the OPL, where single season deals rule the roost and players are vying to get picked out of the NL for the next iteration of the league.

There have been speculations on the NL qualification earlier in this thread but does anyone actually KNOW what "annual team performance" means in the 2026 NL regs for qualification to the NL 2027. The weighting part 10% 2022, 15% 2023, 20% 2024, 25% 2025 and 30% 2026 is clear.
Now that we are over half way through the season it would be great for fans of the various clubs in contention to know and to be honest NZF should be providing the updated situation every week - for the small number of clubs affected it is a 5 minute weekly update job at most (although people would have to be aware if teams haven't played the same number of matches at the end of each weekend).
I have been told from a couple of sources that it is position based (i.e. for CL/SL it is 10 points for 1st, 9 for 2nd etc and similarly for NPL 12 for 1st, 11 for 2nd etc.) with weighted points over the 5 seasons used only as tiebreaker if weighted positions are level. There is a possible tweak in NPL and CL to account for AFCR and WPR for example a team finishing 7th behind WPR would get 6th placed points not 7th and the 8th team 7th not 8th etc but it is unclear whether this tweak is in the final version or not.
I have churned the numbers based on position based including the tweak but they would be speculative unless someone can tell me for sure what the final definition of "annual team performance" is.

I think at this point it's safest to assume it's position based, which sucks (imo) because using points is far more representative and doesn't open itself up to situations where a team would benefit from losing.
Not sure exactly what it means, probably bad news for Eastern Suburbs & Christchurch United, good news for Coastal Spirit & Western Springs.

The SL is straight forward with no A-league reserve sides to complicate matters. For Christchurch United the equation is simple ... finish ahead of, or at most one place behind, Coastal and they get in but finish two or more places behind Coastal and they miss out. Based on present standings they are in trouble being five points adrift of qualifying (they would have to catch both Northern and Nelson) and it would get worse if Coastal finished ahead of Nomads and/or Ferrymead.
Up North there are lots of permutations and at present it is too close to call as I have the following weighted positional scores ... Birko (10.00), City (9.75), Suburbs (9.25), United (9.00) and Springs (8.90) assuming the AFCR tweak.

I didn't do the Squires tweak and got the same number. Hadn't realised Springs were doing so badly they could miss out.
Ignoring this season it's:
1. Auckland City - 7.65
2. Western Springs - 7.10
3. Auckland United - 6.60
4. Birkenhead United - 6.40
5. Eastern Suburbs - 5.95
Pretty rough on Eastern Suburbs who finished 2(?) points off the title last season, meaning they now basically have to finish 2nd and hope ECB, Fencibles & City don't have a drop off in form.
Central League I'm least sure of, Olympic obviously qualified, but accounting for WeeNix placement things more complicated. I think Miramar will likely go through and whoever finishes lower of West Subs & Napier will go to the playoffs.
Southern League as you said, pretty simple. Despite the gap Christchurch United should be a lot better over the remainder of the season as they bring in SIU players, so for Coastal it could be a matter of doing enough to keep them off, either alongside another team or by overtaking someone.

I had forgotten how low AFCR had finished last season so as you say with or without the tweak it is the same figures.
Re CL with the tweak (it does make a difference as WPR have been around longer and have had a couple of decent years) and weighted points as tiebreaker, I have Olympic only needing 3 position points (i.e. 9th place) this season to claim a place - which would be guaranteed next weekend if FC Western don't beat Wests. Assuming Olympic qualify the permutations I have calculated are :-
MR 1st qualify
MR 2nd qualify
MR 3rd qualify unless Wests & NCR in top 2
MR 4th miss out
NCR 1st qualify
NCR 2nd qualify
NCR 3rd qualify unless Wests 1st & MR 2nd
NCR 4th qualify if Wests 3rd
Wests 1st qualify
Wests 2nd qualify unless MR top and NCR 3rd
Wests 3rd qualify if MR 4th
Wests 4th miss out
