Coey Turipa has just been announced as their first signing. Good signing, but a given since he signed for Nelson Suburbs.

Well he did play for Canty Utd this season so not a super give-in.

Tasman United also just came out on Twitter and said he was in high demand so... I guess I spoke too soon *clears throat and retreats back into the hole from whence I came.*

Smart signing. Ticks all the boxes for them, a proven national league performer (though in just one season), a local lad, still young, and has experience as captain of the Mainland Premier League team and previously captain of the youth league team.

When does SA season end/start? Would it be out of the question to try and get Jeremy Brockie down to Nelson in September to line up for the Azure (that seems to be the nickname they're trying to develop) against the WeeNix, or perhaps to lineup for the Nix against CCM?

Never mind, wouldn't work as SA season starts in August. Maybe Siggy? He was born in Blenheim, part of the Azure catchment. Perhaps they could look to sign him for 2016/17 (Siggy, not Brockie).

It's a colour, light blue. I seem to recall something about it on their Twitter.

Yeah, the use the #Azure a few times on their tweets. At first I thought it was simply referencing their badge, but then they used it on tweets of all topics.

The Azzurri (Sky Blues) is the moniker for the Italian Rugby Team

Perhaps slightly more relevant to this forum, also the moniker for the Italian football team.

It must be the official name of the colour used in the logo.

I don't think that counts, as the logo has a gradient. I think what it is, is the colour of the shorts, socks and coloured hoops.

I quite like the new badge.  I really hope Tasman picks up a decent following, would be great for more then one or two clubs to actually have fans turn up.  Would be quite the coup if they managed to get Seamonster onboard.

Someone that is half decent, that doesn't play for Nelson Suburbs. That would surprise me.

Haha. Don't let others on this forum get you down mate, good on you cheering on your team. Are you going to have enough for a youth and senior team?

They could probably just make a youth team out of the Nelson college first XI that won the national champs.

From the Nelson Mail: Jordan Swaney Signs for Tasman

How well do you guys think Tasman United can go in their maiden season? Admittedly I know near nothing about them, but I believe they could get 7th or 8th. I'm from the south so I'm a Southern fan but I know you guys will probably get 4 or 6 points out of us so no doubt you'll be above us. I also reckon you'll be better than Phoenix Reserves.

My concern (as a Nelsonian) is a lack of current ASB Prem experience. Kaua won't play, I don't know if he's been properly released or if he'll be back next season. Without him, Turipa is our only real 2015/16 ASBP regular (also a great, great, great goalkeeper, put in a blinder last I saw against Siggy's Cashmere for Suburbs). Does anyone know if Swaney was playing NPL in Aus? Transfermarkt says he's a left winger, I don't know if that's misinformation or if he can actually play there as well.

Anyway, I think that, if signings continue as they have (good MPL/equivalent talent with little recent ASBP gametime) then a 6-8 would be the expectation (Depends how Eastern Suburbs recruits and how Waitak bounce back, assuming a finish above Southern (sorry, you're just so infinitely shark) and the WeeNix). If we pick up one or two good foreigners, as has been discussed, then that could go up to probably 5 at the most.

As a biased-to-all-hell Tasmanite, I expect a steady improvement in placings after a few years. Nelson is a sporting city, with a lot of support for national sports, and a lot of recent success to boot (see: Giants, Makos). There is also a lot of football in Nelson, it's probably played just as much at senior level as rugby, which is not the case in most of NZ.

Went to school a few years behind Swaney, he was our captain the 1 year I wasn't in the first XI and he played through the middle for us and I'm pretty sure he played through the middle for both Richmond Athletic, Nelson Suburbs and I'm sure he did at Ferrymead as well.

In all honesty, I think we'll do ok. Some of the youth there is really fudgeing impressive, Bertie Fish is an outstanding footballer, as is David Maisey, I saw this kid tear apart a game at National Secondary Schools as a year 9, if he wants it, he will have a future in football. Its a pity that the season is while College in America is on, guys like Alex Risdale and Ross McPhie would be great additions to the squad (Fox Slotemaker, not so much). I love Nelson football and its my biggest regret about moving away, so I'm absolutely fizzing to see a Tasman squad do well. Our youth team was better than they had any right to be and I'm optimistic that our mens side will do the same. The squad probably is a little thin at the moment though.

Have you heard anything about whether Mike White is coming up? I was surprised Turipa did and I know Ben Harris and Sam Mason-Smith won't but are there any other former Nelson players floating around the ASB Premiership that might fancy a trip home for the summer?

Bertie Fish: Great footballer, and but he's a pain in the arse to ref. Can be a virtue, though.

Heard Alex Ridsdale was back in Nelson this week. Not sure if it is on permanent basis, but I know he has graduated from Uni in the States

Absolutely fizzing, this is an awesome signing. Would love to follow up with Sam Mason-Smith, given he played in the region when he first came over to NZ and is fairly close with Ifill.
