He doesn't need to fake an injury to talk to other clubs. The only reason he only would do that would be to avoid an extension trigger. The more info we get the more and more it seems to be exactly the case.
If this is true I can't imagine a bigger way to disrespect the club than refusing to honour your contract - especially when the club have already stated they offered him a new contract (one would have assumed on improved terms than the trigger has).
I bet he would have laughed all the way to the bank if a trigger had fallen in his favour and he was out of form or something.
