I would play prattley there , The only other player who can play a left back is Phelo himself , I guess that could be an option ??

I'm pretty sure Phelan has no interest in playing this year, Prattley will be fine, he just needs some confidnece at playing at this level. The NZFC preview on the news page has colin Falvey named as captain which surprises me, would of assumed Coburn would have kept the job. I never like to see imports as captain, they are here one minute gone the next.

By the way it sounded in the paper today dosent even sound as though chisom will be available this weekend anyway so it might give phelan a week to think about it..I dont think Phelan is in the playing squad this year so that might rule that idea out aswell Keano but i could be wrong,Im still not sure about dugdale and jackson i guess we will have to wait 3 days to find out one thing is for sure it better not to brand!!!

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing Phelan don the boots again for Otago Utd - I watched a practice game a few weeks ago where Horner filled that LB spot, thought he went alright and was not shy about using his left. In saying that he is more effective as CB however with the personnel there, it could be an option?

I think you are right Parca in that Jackson could be a real threat coming off the bench - Dugdale has a wiser nut on his shoulders so starting him over the inexperienced Jackson would be prudent.
Is there any chance some of the young lads from the plains getting a run out this weekend?

The only one worthy of a place is morgy day , good player but a little small , Cant see them looking past Burgess and Dugdale up front , if chisholm doesnt play that leave the way open for Phelan to play Henderson Horner Falvey and Prattley

I think Otago will be bit more than competetive this year ??

re Justin Flaws, not sure where you're getting your info on him wanting to play for United? he's only back in Dunedin for a month to sort out a work permit to stay in the UK...

Spied a bit of Otago trainig last night , two team playing a mock game looked like a starting lineup versus the bench , they lined up like this
                                       Little
            Henderson - Falvey - Horner - Prattley
             Jackson - Coburn - Gardner - Deeley
                             Brand  - Burgess

Other team Chisholm , smith , dugdale , 2 germans , connor , no Scoullar and a couple of ring ins

Have they gone back to a standard 4-4-2 formation? Previously they were going for a more attacking 4-3-3. Maybe Phelan felt that this was slightly to attacking for Otago? I would rather see either Scoullar or Dugdale in there ahead of Brand but maybe he has been impressing the management of late with his tenachious running.

After watching the game on Sunday I think Otago will be more of a threat than most teams thought , ok they lost 2-0 but came close on 3-4 occasions Dugdale being the most unluckist after being put thru and then called back for offside , Not sure off his name but i thnk it was Steve Brand contributed nothing to Otago when he came on , Phelan prob should have left Scoullar on , I might be down for there game against Canty so hopefully a win , Go Otago

Going on what you have posted Keano we should be in for a more attacking style of football that should at least give the crowds their moneys worth. Were there any performances of note? I see Barry Gardiner had a good game? Brand was always going to struggle at that level.

Scoullar surprised me , given the lack of game time he has had recently , Horner played well , Flavey is a nut case and will have to keep his emotions under wrap otherwise the refs wont give him much game time , Dugdale and Burgess played well up front and Coburn was a solid as ever in the midfield , Good hit out first up , looking forward to them fronting up against the One Eyed Sheep Shaggers from Canterbury this week

2 0 not bad against a classy aucland side, good to see thery only conceded 2 goals how did the back 4 look bacause it going to have to be solid there if they want to go well this year!!

Probably the worst of the defence was Captain Falvey , the two young guys out wide played well Prattley never missed a beat all day , was impressed with the workrate of both Gardner and Deeley , the midfield had a good feel  about it , worked well with forwards and defence , good performance allround .

Has anyone got any inside knowledge about this weekends game? Reckon I might put a bit of coin on Otago Utd to beat Canterbury.....I imagine Phelan will be keeping the same XI? Possibly minus Scoullar as he might have a knee injury - is this correct?

Id fancy United for the win but its always a gamble! Not sure about about scoullar didnt even no he was injured,I heard Henderson had abit of a shocker in the weekend so maybe chisom or smith in for him???But i really have no idea

I wouldn't be so quick to write off Henderson Truth - from what I have watched of him in the SPL he has the qualities to be a reasonable NZFC player. Think as he gains a bit of experience the confidence will come for the young lad and we will some good contributions. Otago Utd must be the favourites on Sunday although the TAB have made stranger assumptions.

Word on the street is that Otago will field a similar line up to last week , with the only change Scoullar out and one of the germans in for him , they may jink the bench with youngsters morgan day and Tom connor getting a crack ahead of Brand ( I hope ??) , Chisholm still not up to match fitness yet , but will probably be ready by next weekend , he will prob be cover for both defence and midfield

Not a bad summary truth , I would only make one change , Day in for Connor , we need more cover in the midfield rather than another striker , wouldnt rate connor as a wide player either ??

Yea your right i not sure where connor play's really think he got on against Auckland in the weeknd tho.. Otago United 2 Canterbury 0

Thats not good , I would rather see a injured Scoullar than a Brand , or even one of the young guys , at tleast they would show ethusiasim and vibrance

Brand is only in that team cause Rab Smith talks so much smack in the ODT every week, that people start being he's a decent player (Smith & Brand = Roslyn) - Otago Player of Year, what a load of Rubbish, there were two players that scored twice as many goals as him last season!

There were also 5 SPL coaches that didnt vote , so where did they come up with brand , I heard Boylan , Wilson James and even Barry Van Gorp got to vote , I think Jackson and Burgess scored double the goals than brand in the SPL

Previous winners of Otago Player of the year, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting

08 - Brand (Roslyn)
07 - Keat (Roslyn)
06 - Boylan(Roslyn) + Tim Horner

Thats an interesting point you have come accross , Is this why the game down there is in such diaray , its run by Roslyn people , Rab , Wilson and Barry ,

Yesh it is all a bit of a joke - think Little it in 07 although he is now with Caversham. Probably the last Otago award he will get that means. I guess he will have to make do with league winners medals from now on instead. I have been told 5 out of the last 7 have been Roslyn players and they haven't won a thing? Not sure how this all works but obviously the likes of BVG etc are taking the piss and having a real good laugh about it.

I remember a few years back, Brand scored a goal & went to kiss the Roslyn emblem, but ended up smooching the lotto logo - classy eh, he even played in a roslyn trial with a hat on...

Kennedy - spot on, it was Liam little that season, i must've read so many ODT articles that harped on about Keat that season, my bad.

Easy mistake to make Grovsey - maybe it will be Keats year next season hey. Although he may have some stiff competition from the other 13 lads in the Roslyn squad. Too be fair Brand may have been looking at the Roslyn logo?

If not Brand then who??? Coburn, burgess,Henderson,Jackson, chisom???who were your picks boys.I agree with yous it was a joke!! I still cant believe there is a chance he will lead the line this weekend

Surely it should have been either Jackson or Burgess with 19 goals a piece , My pick probably would have been Chisholm or may be Henderson ,

I think it should have been either Burgess or Henderson. Personally I have always been a fan of giving the best player award to someone from the winning team (as long as they have a worthy enough player which generally they will). In that respect Henderson would be my pick.
