On the Team Wellington thread it says they beat Manuwatu 6-0..so both teams into next week's season opener on the back of 6-0 wins!

thought they all play well, but you have to wonder why they have not even bothered to arrange a match against canterbury, playing youth is not a good way to enter into the ASB.
I think it will be a very long season for OU, hope the fans understand this as they will cop a fair few thrashings this season. In my opion they are to young and not enough depth in this team.

Yes I think Canterbury would have like a game against Otago, both or gave travelled to Timaru.

Wellington's miserable Chatham Cup form to flow over into the ASB Premiership and OU will smash the TDubs!

Falco to pull the strings with Ants, GC Harls and Prattley to score.

Such contrasting views - I will be surprised if we get slaughtered like 5-0 or something because we have players that know how to get behind the ball and frustrate a side..and the longer we can do that on their home turf the greater the chance Wellington will get frustrated and provide us with the opportunity to get something out of the game. But we are really going to have to focus on our defensive shape and be wide awake at set piece time. O - and have a quiet one saturday night please boys.

turn up in the ambulance as there will be casualties on the OU side. I would like for OU to have a good season, but based on the lack of experience in their squad I share the opinion of many that it will be a long season

The Ambulance could be needed to the TW boys, my pick is for Ants to Demas a few Wellington defenders, and TC to show a few tricks he learnt from an old cart horse a few years back.

You talking about that old Irish cart horse? If this young team can have half his attitude they will be fine. We have a fair bit of Celtic blood in there still.

Nah I'm tallking about the most ferocious talker I have ever seen, Vanuata international Graham Demas who played for OU about 5 years ago.

Apart from Lutz Otago ahs a terrible record with imports... they ahve had some dreadful ones in their time. One who comes to mind was the goalkeeper from "Liverpool" I forget his name he was about 6''7 and terrible

He virtually threw one in against Canty at Carisbrook when we were 2-0 up they then laid siege to our goal, god knows how they didn't equalise, the other players cleared more off the line than he saved.
He seemed like a good bloke but he couldn't catch or kick, from memory his goal kicks made Javis look like Beckham. Even at 6"7 thats not a good combo.

Ah with Arburn being a scouser maybe he wanted to become the next Gary Sprake impersonator

"Aburn" was a South London geezer & our Scouse assistant at the time said "he's the goods" couldn't have been further from the truth...that first goal against canty was quality though, runs out to the 18 yard box to drop kick it, kicks the ground instead of the ball, ball rolls out to striker & chips him.

to be fair though he made an absolute miracle full strech save from point blank range in injury time sprawling to his right and tipping the ball round the post to secure OU all 3 points...

Potnetially 'pricie' for the standard of football but apart from the ODTity's big night in probably one of the cheapest events at the satdium.
No BYO Double Brown like previous years.

Still great news though.

That was my gut feeling. One thing alot of sport, but not football fans say to me is, football in Otago hasn't got alot to sell, it can't over price itself. $13 is a weird price. Esepcially with the addition of a kid price, for families its a big price increase for not a great product.

Will $13 turn people away?
Will it be the same old die hards along with the players family and friends?

or will the stadium as a venue attract a few more along?

Season tickets are only up $5 and $13 is only up $3.
Definately worth it to go to the stadium instead of Tahuna.
(Although there is better parking at Tahuna)

$13 is the perfect price, and well though out. $1 per player + 10 cents per sub. Plus GST of course. I am gonna get down for one game at the FB for sure - what a fantastic experience for fans and players alike. Let's not be so Scots about all this for a change and get out there and support the lads!

55 for a season ticket is well priced however, after watching one home game of mud many may not return, making a price of $55 for once through the turnstile

On 11 March 2012 we play Auckland City at FB. They have one dude that actually played for theBarca first team, and a couple of dudes that played for the Barca reserves. Plus they have Vicelich who is an icon. I'm gonna fly down from Palmy and watch that for sure...gonna cost me $500 for the weekend probably. But in perspective $55 that game alone (even if we are mud or something worse like s..t) will be worth it maybe.

I think the cost of the Stadium hire and also the fact that the Stadium employ security guards is the main part of the reason for the increase. Also speaking to a person at the Stadium. They also have to employ people to collect the gate-takings.This used to be done by OU and also there was never any need for security.Well behaved southerners. It just means forking out $55.00. This is excellent value.

Prattley named as captain for the season. Thoughts? I'm in favour, he's only 21 but as far as I can think he's the most experienced player by far not to mention easily one of the best!

2 - 2 draw with Team Wellington, after Otago were 2 up after 11 mins (Hancock in the opening minute and then Overton) so on the board with a point.  If the reports from the game are correct TW did most of the attacking after the break, with Ferguson sent off for a double yellow after 67mins.

All heroes for Otago today and they made a mockery of thse saying it woulld be a bloodbath.  Otago the better side in the first half by a mile.  Midfield Overton, Mepham, Cunningham, Ryder too quick and too much hunger.  We were great at the back.  Very well organised.  Two well taken goals, Prattley dead unlucky to put in own net.  Second half TW got back into it.  They scored a second from a scramled corner then a shot. Fiitzpatrick got injured which was shame because he was very solid and quick - him and Prattley kept the much vaunted Aussie strikeer quiet.    Lost nothing with Joy comming on though.  Then Mcgregor got injured too - he looks a handy player and played a big part in the first goal.  Young Stevens came on and was lively.  Then Ferguson got sent for 2nd yellow - so it was back to the wall stuff.  Couple of fantastic saves from Evans.  But we hung on deservedly.  My MOM - very hard to pick but Cunningham and Overton showed some real class.NatPevin2011-10-23 17:33:46

This sounds like it could be are good season for otago, starting with 2 goals (when they only got 14? last year) and off with 1 point.
Did we look sharpe in the first 10  mins as we scored 2 or did  wellington take it easy and paid the price.
I heard that when they took paddy of at half time and brought on white they were very dangerous down the left side??????
But if they (wellington) fancy themselfs as going close to winning it they will have alot of work to be done. Good result otago see you at the waitak game

It was us that looked great in the first 20-25. Organised. Sharp passing. Great hunger. Blew them off the park. I think they underestimated us badly. Then the tide turned with the own goal, but we were still very competitive and good on the counter. In the second half White brought a lot of energy and threat. Then with the two injuries and red card we were just all men behind the ball basically. The Wellington coach was right to sub Fleming. He seemed a bit lost to be honest, but I'm sure he will come right as he gets to know his new team-mates.
