Looked at the Cavy v Braes game and apart from Little in goals there wasn't a quality player on the pitch
Pretty awful to be honest

Congrats to all the Otago lads on a decent result and end to the season yesterday. Sixth on a shoestring budget is good IMO, and the young squad should realistically target top the 4 next season.

+1
Kudos to all those involved in Otago United.
Well worth forking out for a season ticket.

i don't think the current squad will push for top 4 next season but overtaking HB United into 5th is more realistic

Don't disagree with the likely outcome you suggest - but the aim should be a bit higher than 5th.

The Otago Utd players will sign up early this week now the last game is out of the way - although having said that I see Jackson Mitchell has signed for the mighty Roslyn already - good to see young talent going that way. The only other Otago players who I have no idea where they are going are Ferguson, Rodrigues, Ridden, McGregor, Cantillo and Fitzpatrick. Seems to some on this forum that Mosgiel will get them all; perhaps the last two will head back up north, but surely the other four will be snapped up - get the cheque book out Roslyn!

Anyone keen for a fantasy team comp? Suggested rules:

Select squad: 2GK, 5D, 5M, 3F

Team limit: maximum 4 players from any one team

Squad budget: none because no-one gets paid anyway.

Formation: 4-4-2 only

Starting XI: select weekly before game and post on forum, being clear about position selections

Captain: select a captain each week (worth double points)

Substitutes: only come into the mix if your first choice selection in that position doesnt play

Transfers: limit 3 per week for first 3 weeks, then 2 per week from then on.

Scoring system (read carefully):

Games Played = 1 point
Defender/Goalkeeper Goal = 8 points
Midfielder Goal = 6 points
Forward Goal = 4 points
Defender/Goalkeeper Clean Sheet = 4 points
Midfielder Clean Sheet = 1 point
Penalty Save = 4 points
Penalty Shot Miss = -4 points
Goals Conceded by Goalkeeper/Defender = -1 point per goal
Yellow Card = -1 point
Straight Red Card = -4 points
Own Goal = -4 points

I think we can rely on match reports to be accurate on the forum, and Ill post score updates each week.

I can keep tabs on scores for this also. 1 point for correct result and 2 for exact score! My picks are:

Cavvy - University (3-0)
Queenstown - Mosgiel (0-4)
Braes - Northern (3-1)
Tech - Roslyn (2-2)

I pick Spartacus, Crixus, Gannicus and of course the honourable Oenomaus. This four should easily see off any other squad you fools could pick. For I am Good Solonius!!

Seems like Caversham and Tech have got their transfers requests in already. So it looks to me like Ferguson, Cantillo, Ridden and McGregor must be going to either Roslyn (fingers crossed) or Mosgiel.

OK I'll talk to myself. I see there's a double-header at the Caledonian anyway - Uni vs Cavvy and Tech vs Rosyln. Smart stuff from FootballSouth that. Weather forecast is good! See you there - should be a couple of crackers. Tech to beat Roslyn with ease and the Scarfies to give Cavvy a bit of a fright too I think.

I'll give Footballsouth the benifit of the doubt, although the is a possiblity that it has more to do with ground availability.

Should be a good day, I'm fizzing already
I just hope I'll be allowed out
Giddy Up Roslyn!!!

Picks for the Weekend

Caversham - Varsity  2-1
qtown - mosgiel 0-6
braes - northern 2-2
tech - roslyn 1-2

The 'sham will be too strong against a young varsity team. Mosgiel have looked Barcelona esque in pre season clashes that I have seen. Braes will tin out a draw against northern and roslyn will upset tech.

Hey Bois! Long time reader, first time poster here.. just like to get my picks in for the opening round clashes.
Uni vs Cav (1-2)

Qtwn vs Mos (1-4)

Nor va GBs (2-1)

Tech vs Ros (3-1)

Not too sure why my tech lads have been talked down so much on here and i expect the reigning champs to be to strong for the horsehead. Northern to pip Braes late on

Looks like the majority of transfers went throught today with Roslyn aside. Tech, Mos and Cavvy have all their players back whilst Donnie has signed for G.I (must be money in that move...). As for Cantillo i think he is back up north for winter and does not look like Ferg has signed with anyone. Maybe Roslyn as they havnt confirmed anyone yet. Food for thought

Ferg having a rest for a couple of weeks to get over a long season
Mosgiel not pinning there hopes on anyone
Ferg should go to where he feels happiest, always the best way to get the most out of any player
