Jesus Christ, looking at the design of that website makes me wonder...

Yeah Rabs content is great but perhaps someone needs to get him a web design book for Xmas to replace his "Web Design For Dummies 1998".

Is there a way to follow the game today? I don't think the match is on TV. Is it on any radio station? If not, why do no local radio stations care to cover the best team in the region in the second most popular sport in New Zealand?

Bet365 usually run live in-game scoring. Also Twitter is probably a good shout, #SSPremiership or follow @SouthernUnited

Hamilton Wanderers already leading 1–0... Tom Davis goal in the 9th minute.

And that's how it finished. Sounded like we had some chances though and it was a very even, albeit scrappy, game.

Looks like Twitter is the place to follow the away games for updates. In fact there's something quite therapeutic about getting the live updates via there, a little like the radio in the old days. I'm not aware on any radio coverage of the games unfortunately.

What happened to O'Farrel in the weekend? Subbed or taken off? No room for connor or Collier in the match game squad? Howard centre back? Few questionable decision's for me

Looking forward to today's game. I give Southern an even chance of winning with the Irish lads out to impress.

Southern United starting XI for today's match. Sad to not be in Dunedin right now cause it looks set to be a cracker.

Not much has changed really by the look of it..

  • Not getting enough pressure on the ball
  • Diving in when realising they aren't close enough to the ball / player..
  • Clearing the ball into the dangerous areas.
  • Not giving the striker enough support.

Was that one of the five Irish players, trying to tackle one of the several Dragons players he could see after a few Laphroaigs?

What the?

I was in the stands, sniping Clapham. But like most of Southern's shots, my aim was a bit off.

Final Score 3-1 to Canterbury. Probably worth their win.

2 goals in extra time after the 90. I thought Southern's was well taken, and the celebration excellent.

Tekker's list is a pretty good summary of how the day went for Southern.

Was sitting in line for the first pen call, it did look like the right call, very clumsy defending. Not sure about the second was at other end to me, no replays at the ground and haven't seen the game on tv.

Also really good crowd in. Someone said a guesstimate of 2000, not sure how close that is to the mark though, and haven't seen any official word.

Between 700 and 900 I reckon . It "felt " even bigger at the ground. Great to see a good turnout.

Plenty of promise in the performance , especially the second half . Both penalties a bit soft - not shocking calls ,  but ones you wouldn't necessarily expect to be awarded (especially against the home team , and in 2nd minute etc). Second in particular was probably  a bad call I reckon on watching replay of match.

Latest figures re: crowd. You're bang on, the official Southern United twitter reckons 700-800.

That would  surely have to be one of the side's better crowds in recent memory? I can't remember being at a game with more than 50 people . . .

By my recollection, would have to go back to early days of the league to get anywhere near that.

Recall a game vs Waikato in 2004/05 at the Caley that got about 1500.

Another terrible start for Southern. Looks doomed already like last year under that pretender Fridge. They seem to have gone backwards in the last 2 seasons. Players in that side are not good enough ae

Meh, no surprises with the negativity from a small but vocal minority - always a problem in little old Dunedin. Sure it was far from a great performance but still plenty of encouragement and I still  think Southern will pick up a few wins and surprise a few people.

Have to remember that's a very good Canterbury side.

Imports are all the real deal - not world beaters but  good solid pros and they're the best 5 in the squad. They all seem to bring the right kind of attitude to the team too . It's the locals that need to step up - a couple of them were simply disgraceful on Saturday, nowhere near their best.

Howard and Rodeka looked out of their depth on the weekend. Like to See Collier and n out and out CB get the start this weekend.

I actually thought Howard did OK although don't quite understand why he's playing CB.

Harley probably has more National League experience than any other local . I thought he looked ok other than being very isolated .

It probably sums up the standard of the ODT Premier League when there are no players from the league that really belong at National League level. Canterbury have the quality operators like Clapham, Schwarz and Ogilvie playing in the local league up there. Southern have no chance of competing due to the lack of quality down here. The real quality players like Joel Stevens, Tristan Prattley and Tom Jackson get picked up quickly because lets be honest it's not hard to stand out in that team.

But Southern look a lot better than in previous seasons and should definitely be able to pick up a few wins this season. Molloy looks the pick of the imports. Collier looked solid off the bench. The defence looks reasonably solid, it's just a matter of creating more chances and taking them.

The six the had playing (other than the Irish guys) are reasonably solid to be fair. Probably swap Jude or Higgins for Ross and they should get a few results

I think Howard and Last could be a good combination at the back. I think Howard could be a good centre back if he's giving time. Pretty comfortable on the ball, good passer and fast. Which was noticeable with Last aswell.

Not sure that all the hate towards Ross is justified. Other than the fact that he is not a CB, he played well, made simple passes and defended well most of the time. If we look at the goals, the most experienced players were at fault, with the Irish CB and Ferg giving away the pens and the midfield didn't track Clapham (Irish DM?)

The key is clearly to be defensively sound first and then the pace up front can be utilised as the game goes on. The early goals ruin it all because the other team doesn't need to take as many risks and it nullifies Molloy, Mulligan and Rodeka, who will score goals.

Thoughts on the new Mosgiel gaffa?

I thought Ross played well and was surprised that he didnt come out at half time. The combination between Stephen and Ross could work well.
